Given my experience with people over the course of my lifetime, I'd say that the most likely reason for everybody using Pro Tools is the name. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine program and a DAW pioneer, but nowadays most of the programs available are pretty much the same, capability wise. Some are slightly better than others in certain areas, but what it comes down to is personal preference. Personally, I use Sonar because I've basically grown up using Cakewalk programs and I've become quite comfortable with them, but I've learned to use Pro Tools quite well because if you ever work anywhere other than your home studio, you will run into it.
