I have never really listened to them.....Is their any albums worth checking out?

I mainly listen to Hypocrisy, Darkthrone, Immortal, Pantera, SJR etc...

Tex :kickass:

well Dimmu is my 2nd fave band ever so I'd say yeah

they are symphonic black metal, lots of orchestral/melodic stuff

get these albums ;

Puritanical euphoric misanthropia (best album ever written? best prod ever?)
Death cult armageddon
Enthrone darkness triumphant

if you are not conviced after these 3, get outta here :p

deathcult armageddon is terrible.

Stormblast is as far as I'll go with Dimmu... but I've heard For All Tid is good too.

blasphemy, this album is grand

GRAND

:)

Agreed, the P|_|R3 3|_!T3 Z\/4RT /\/\3T/\|_ heads need to get their head out of their arse and stop thinking dimmu is black. Maybe then they'd lighten up and see that this album is actually pretty damned good.

In Sorte Diaboli on the other hand....shit....

PS: it spells Pure Elite Zvart Metal

I love Dimmu. Their newest album is meh, but whatever. They've had a good run.
I love how elitist BM fans always rip on them for not being "trve" or "kvlt" enough. It make me rofl. They're a great band with great musicians and awesome music. I like Puritanical Eu... etc, For All Tid, Stormblast, old and reissue.

i like a lot dimmu, enthrone darkness triumphant, spiritual black dimensions and puritanical euphoric misanthropia... but nothing more, maybe some more songs...

This - and check out Stormblast as well. Don't pay attention to those who bash this band relentlessly - all of these albums mentioned are really good. No need to bother with the rather boring "In Sorte Diaboli", unless you become a raving fanboi :loco:

yeah all them people saying Dimmu are sell outs and posuers and stuff, for fucks sake, they were so good that people usually NOT liking extreme metal began to dig em because of all the symphonic elements. That gave em much more exposure than most black metal, what were they supposed to do? tell everyone to fuck off and start making crappy generic metal?

Btw about Dimmu, hopefully everyone is aware that the band is now a trio? Yeah Mustis and Vortex got kicked out 3 months ago

Dimmu is good but IMO not great anymore. Check out Enthrone Darkness Triumphant because it's their best album and it's great. Songwise Stormblåst is also very good but it's thin production drags it down a bit. You could check out Stormblåst MMV. It's re-recording of it and the production is much better, though it lacks the atmosphere of the original. Sorgens Kammer is also different. For All Tid (their debut), Spiritual Black Dimensions, Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, Death Cult Amageddon and In Sorte Diaboli are all decent albums with their pros and cons. They have been slightly stale lately but quality of their songs hasn't dropped drastically. Production of course is getting better and better.

I dont like the album. After they quit playing black metal, whatever the heck they play now... I dont like. I dont care if I'm being trve/kvlt/froztbitten... when I have to turn an album off half way through because I dont like it..

That being said, as I said before, I really like Stormblast and really need to listen to For All Tid. (and probably the next two after stormblast)

Sorgens Kammer is also different

well they are not at all the same songs, part 1 was only piano, and the band learned after that Stian (former keyboard guy) plagiarised the tune from an old video game, so Dimmu wrote a completely new song, not based at all on the 1st one at all.

Production of course is getting better and better

I dont agree, P-E-M has the best prod ever, D-C-A was very well produced, but a step under P-E-M. Stormblast MMV has a decent prod too, but again a step down from the previous one. I-S-D has a prod which I would compare with D-C-A, but drums and guitars tone are different.

and Im my opinion, E-D-T has a better prod than S-B-D, which becomes a bit muddy at times.

I like Dimmu, but I don't listen to them as much as I used to. But it'll be interesting to see how their next album turns out, with Mustis and Vortex out of the band... Haven't got any high expectations, though.

As for their old albums, I think For All Tid is great, but the clean vocals... not so much. Stormblåst is better. I also like a lot of the newer stuff - like EDT, SBD and PEM - but preferably in small doses. :p

Yeah, I know about that copyright incident. That's why it's called Sorgens Kammer - Del II. ;)

I kinda knew you would say that. IMO Puritanical Euphoric... sounds bit plastic, especially the drum sound which also sounds very triggered tapping. Albums that came after sound bit more organic so to say. Nick Barker is good drummer but his drumming tends to sound bit plastic. That's why I like Hellhammer's drumming more.

I agree with Barker being triggered as hell
Some people even told that it wasnt a real drum in PEM, of course it aint true

I understand your point of view about the album being maybe, overproduced and sounding a bit plastic.

in fact I think that most people would agree with you.

But personally Im always looking for the best prod possible, thats why this album, as well as Abigail Williams' last opus are among my fave ever

I like EDT, plus some songs from PEM and DCA. Stormblåst wasn't that bad either, but I usually get turned of by any keyboard-fucking bands. Keys should be for atmosphere only I hate "pling-plong" shit which is the main reason I get turned off from Dimmu Borgir. Never liked Mustis but now he's gone so I hope they find a better replacement for my taste.

Shagrath is gonna handle the keyboards for the upcoming album, which is almost entirely written by now

Studio bass will prolly be handled by Silenoz and/or Galder and drums by Daray (Vader)

They stated that the creative force of Dimmu is totally intact.

Since I-S-D was a letdown still, next album is a make or break for me

if its not better than I-S-D, I will consider this band dying, to be dead soon

ps ; really wonder how they are gonna manage the absence of Vortex for his vocal parts during the upcoming gigs

Dummu is the cradle of filth of Norway.

to the starter of the thread : this is exactly the kind of comment about Dimmu that you should ignore, since its false and totally irrelevent
