Worth every penny!

It's amazing how easy I can hear the click now (even at a low volume). It's nice to record and not have a freaking earache afterwards.

can make those for less than 10 € (depending on the quality of the driver).

just go to any home improvement store (dont know how that's called in english), and get those noise-protection headphones:

for about 2-5€.
take an old headphone, and remove the drivers.
place the drivers inside the shells of the protectionphones (need to drill a small hole for the cables).
takes about 10 minutes and is the best thing to work with, no drummer will complain from now on, 'cause he won't hear any direct sound from now on.

i have two pairs of the Direct Sound cans and i love them.... call the guy up direct and he gives a killer deal... much quicker and looks alot nicer than building my own... which i couldn't be arsed to do anyway.

didn't wanna persuade anybody not to buy there, i believe they are great.
i just think i'd rather make them myself (takes only 5-10 minutes) and buy another sm57 for the money it saves me

btw they aren't that ugly, at least less ugly than most drummers wearing them ;)

The Extremes isolate well, but the drivers seem really dull and muffled to me.

Has anyone tried the Ultraphone with the Sony 7506 driver?

No need to unmount drivers. Just use decent in-ear headphones.
most drummers are not cool with those.
after some time they're hurting, or they're falling off, or so.
have tried it for years, but there are too many ears, that are not made for the shape of inears ('cept you use the custom designed ones, but that'll be even more expensive).
too many drummers were complaining, so i had to come up with this

I've tried gun muffs with in-ear phones. Very painful after awhile.

The Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones are very comfortable. The drivers were fairly flat IMHO. Which is great for me. I'm not using them for mixing. I'm only using them when I'm playing to a click.

Thanks for the tip James. I want at least one more pair so I don't have to share mine with the other drummers that come over to record.

Anyone here seen the Metrophones Studio Kans? Wondering how they compare...

They even make a model with dedicated speakers for a click track.
