Hi folks,

we had a thread about discoveries of last year and in memory to that, lets make a thread for your current discoveries, surprises and disappointments in 2002 so far, not even Bands but also albums and maybe the thread will be up to date at the end of the year.

Well, at the moment their are few things mentionable:

possitive:

Zeraphine (Ex- Dreadful Shadows; amzing debut!!!)

Secret Discoveries' re- union

The 3rd and the Mortal- Memoirs (great Comeback)

Flowing Tears- Serpentine
negative:

Tiamat- Judas Christ (disappointing for me, like Skeleton Skeletron)

Alice2- Brave New World (project of Secret Discoveries)

so that's it for now,

now its your turn,

Cheers Morpheus

New discovered kick-arse bands from this year: Ram-Zet, Arch Enemy (I know, they exist already for a long time), Nargaroth (evil!!:D ), Porcupine Tree

Neutral (discovered): Antimatter! I freaked out when I knew Danny and Duncan had this band so I checked them, not that special in my eyes (or ears whatever) though.

Negative: Theatre of Tragedy! Truly a... ehhrrrr...... Tragedy! :D ... no really they turned into a dance act and that's BAAAD. I can't really think of other negative things.

empyrium...amazing band.
virgin black...pure goth!
joshua redman...for all those jazz lovers - great dude on sax.
john scofield...jazz on guitars. wow!

these are my 2002 discoveries..

albums i bought:
a night at the opera: typical blind guardian. but great!
judas christ: just what i expected from tiamat. it's ok.

Strange ones, I must say I like Judas Christ VERY much, and Theatre of Tragedy..., well it's much better then "musique" (I buy it after Assembly), it's so nice to put it on in the car...hmmmmm
Well, quite obvious those are my 2 discoveries!
And also Opeth's Blackwater Park (but it's an album from last year)

Well, I'm pretty sure then you didn't hear their old material yet (ToT), songs like As black as the Devil Painteth, or Tanz der Schatten, or Cassandra... Those are truly great. But hey, no-one's perfect heh :D :D
By the way, you listen to Disturbed , so you are everything except perfect!!! (just kidding hmm)

I heared one cd of their older stuff ,the most famous one I guess, because a friend of mine finds it awesome... THE "Beauty and the Beast" - record if you ask him... altough I'm not into it, I just have Decipher from After Forever & Enter from Within Temptation (BTW, before they getting famous in Belgium and Holland) I prefer clean vocals more (like Lacuna Coil & Flowing Tears)

BTW, talking about Disturbed (popular metal), the next thing I don't understand; where are all those Limp Bizkit-fans, they sold millions of CDs.... are there any over here? (uhm yes, here  ) But I have to say I don't like the last one very much... because you hear they have a big ego... Oh and Fred sucks!

Well yes, some people may prefer music with only clean vocals, but i.m.o. Enter by Within Temptation and Prison of Desire and Decipher by After Forever are simply GREAT! That last cd from Within Temptation is truly horrible... And it seems your friend has a good taste, because he's right about that Beuaty and the beast stuff:)

I do not agree with that, I mean, you would love it if they we're grunts on Mother Earth, (and they we're intended too, that was the original idea) but they didn't do it because it doesn't give the album a surplus value... and the possibility to sell more cds too of course

That's exactly the one and only reason... commercialism sucks! "Let the $$$ roooooooooll!!!"

If more people are liking it, why you are not? If someone at a commercial radiostation decides to play anathema, and they start selling more cds, AFDTE will still be great! Commercial is such a bad word... Metallica have sold Master of Puppets so many times, but who doesn't like that one? You?

In fact Master of Puppets is one of the best metal cd's EVER. But the difference is so easy to see, and you should see it too, do you really think Master of Puppets sold so good because of "normal" people bought it? Nope, it were ALL the metalheads in the world who did. But EVERYONE who's into top-40 buys Within Temptation. And Master of Puppets may have sold very good, it's brutal as hell, but in Mother Earth they left the grunts out and they turned up the sound of the keyboards so much that you even can't hear the guitars anymore.

By the way, this has nothing to do with it, but what do you think of our Belgian metalscene? It's pretty good I think, some kick ass bands: Ancient Rites, Enthroned, Manic Movement, Channel Zero (RIP), Cantar, Axamenta, Kludde, etc... But according to your posts I don't think you're into black metal...

i dont like limp bizkit bullshit. i just think disturbed are a more talented band than they are and that they are "ok." im not a fan of theirs, for heaven's sake.
