do different brands of 12ax7's REALLY make a difference?

just wanted to get people's opinions on this... do you think theres an actually difference between different kinds of 12ax7 preamp tubes?

i ask, cuz i had GT's in my Carvin Belair, and I took them out and put in the EH ones I'd had, and I didn't notice a single difference in tone.

Now, iirc, EH ones are based on Sovtek's, or are a russion design; i donno if GT's are russian-based or not.

have any of you ever used Ruby tubes in your amps? I can get them new for dirt cheap, and wanna know if they're good... or if it'll just be exactly the same as the EH ones I have in now. I know the Ruby's are chinese...

yup they do give different tonalities. just like different makes of 60 watt light bulbs give a slightly different tint & glow level
