XBox *finally* has some decent software coming out for it, like Splinter Cell and MechAssault - Although MechAssault is the only real pull (aside from Halo maybe) that the system has since Splinter Cell is scheduled for a PC port. Almost every other compelling game has come out for another platform, even if the graphics aren't as purty. Other than that, oh yeah and Jet Set Radio Future, there just aren't too many exclusives that seem worth getting the system. The Live thing is definitely going to be the best multiplayer console setup - but I've realized that it is only on rare occasions that I actually like playing video games with people I don't know.

This whole "console war" is kind of an instant replay of the NES versus Sega Master System thing. The company with the landslide of titles (and the superior titles for the most part) is totally walking away with the trophy (ie the money), despite the fact that the hardware is inferior to the competition. I hope that Nintendo attracts some sales via Zelda and Metroid, cause it'd be a pity to see them go software only like Sega....And I don't think that Microsoft will get out of the hardware market until they've had at least one more big failure.

Well...I posted this topic because you seem a gamerly bunch and also...because I am getting an Xbox for christmas tommorrow...

I've been studying up on the box to see what I'm getting myself into and according to some its future looks dismal...and to others its future looks bright. The general consensus among the experts is Xbox needs to get into the Japanese market if they want the box to soar and thats really not happening for them. They need to get a company like Squaresoft (personally my favourite developer), or Namco, or Capcom on side.

Anyways...the ones that say the Xbox's future is bright tell it like this. Microsoft is one of the most persistent companies in the world. They will do anything to make a product sucessful, it takes profit to make profit, and they will push the xbox as far as it can go. They ain't afraid of failure either, and when xbox goes kaput they'll just make xbox2 or whatever, they did that type of thing with windows. Right now Microsoft are on a relentless mission to buy up and get on side as many developers as possible, and their mission is to slowly get momentum going on creating exclusive games until they have a library which will get them the customers they want. Many of the 'experts' (again this is just from surfing the net and reading alot of shit), predict it will be at least a year or so until the xbox really breaks in the markets internationally speaking.

Slowly but surely as well, due to the ease of making games for xbox and the increased stuff it gives developers to work with, Microsoft is getting them onside for exclusive games. Theres like 18 exclusive games in development right now...and recently Microsoft got 6 new developers signed on to make exclusive games, and Interplay is apparently struggling or something and were won over as well.

This is just all stuff I've been reading about for the past 3 hours or so. I was just interested in what I was 'investing' in by acquiring an xbox, but from what I've read its future looks more optimistic than dismal...but then again I may be completely wrong.

Time will tell I suppose...

Then again, I'm gonna have alot of fun with this thing, while it lasts! I can GUARANTEE you that! :D

Oh yeah...I didn't want a Gamecube because Nintendo has HARDLY made a game yet thats impressed me over the entire time I've used them. Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong and all of Nintendo's cutesy 'exclusive' characters have been deemed WORTHLESS to me over all of these years and frankly I don't wanna play ANY games that have those stupid little guys in them.

Then again, Metroid Prime looks AMAZING. I'll just have to settle for Halo...hehe, which also looks amazing...

Oh one more thing...THE MOST AMAZING GAME EVER MADE is set to come out on xbox and xbox only,

That would be Project Ego...which I think is renamed to Fable, and it looks to be THE singularly most inventive and amazing game EVER conjured.

I just hope it turns out as good as it looks it will.

(sorry about the babbling....I'm just excited, hehehe)

the only reason i would want an xbox is to play the buffy the vampire slayer game which is exclusive to that system. other than that nothing about the system really draws me in. maybe i'll just pick up a used one someday buy the buffy game and be done with it but for now i am happy with the ps2.

I cannot WAIT for Toby to read this.

I could take or leave the Xbox - the controllers really are the size of small countries, but I think the graphics are pretty fucking amazing, and I'd love to play Panzer Dragoon. But it really seems comperable to the PS2, which despite having a ton of games only really has a few good ones. In fact I think that could be said for all of the consoles - there just aren't that many good games out there. (of course the ones that ARE good...)
