Does anyone ever triple track at all here?

Sometimes when my mix feels a bit "separated" and not coherent I will try a third rythm guitar
track in the center. Seems like I usually end up quad tracking anyway though.

A friend of mine does quad tracking + a fifth track in the middle. So whatever works for you!

can you explain to me how the comp gives you the desired effect in these situations?

Still learning

the vocals trigger the comressor, which is placed on the guitar bus. So whenever the vocals happen, the compressor compresses the guitars down a few dB. and when there are no vocals there's no com-pression going on.

nah, don't see the benefits.
if you triple track you could also 4 track and have a wider stereo image, less cluttered center etc.
It didn't bother me on Enemies Of Reality though (Sneap mix)...but that's a Sneap mix, so it doesn't really say much

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel about it aswell. I used to experiment with it quite alot a while back, sometimes with good results, but it did muck up the center of the mix quite a bit.

I've personally messed with triple tracking a bit. I stumbled across it one day simply because I forgot to lower the scratch guitar track. When I pulled the fader down I realized it was actually contributing something worthwhile. Now I'll do it every so often but I ONLY raise the level of the 3rd track just enough that is adds some body to the mix. I still prefer to quad track over this though if time allows for it!
