Does this needs to be mastered?

Hey guys!

As I'm facing the end of a project, the band and I agreed on a mix.
I'm not very satisfied with the result, but after the production period of nearly 6 months I'm simply not able to judge the mix anymore.
They say that they're ok with it (actually they freaked out when they heard the mix...)
The deadline for this project is this friday (postponed many times) because then I'm heading to new york for my x-mas holidays ;)
But yesterday these guys got an offer from a pretty nice guy who wants to master the stuff. For I'm not a specialist neither have any clue about mastering, I ask myself if it is nearly to master the recording?
Would be great to get some advices (also on the mix)

UPDATE:

Ok... I've worked a bit on the mix, and this was the result:

And this was the mastering-guy's testmaster!!! I think he did an awesome job, what do you guys think ?

For I have no knowledge concerning mastering, I'm very impressed of what he achieved with this master

guitars have some honkyness/hollowness going on, and the leadguitar on the left side at around 1min is SO FUCKING LOUD ^^
As for the mastering question I don't quite understand what your asking: seems you allready put some mastering for loudness on the masterbus (which isnt mastering)...

but it's always good to have someone else do the master, to get a new fresh pair of ears.
I think the project is "ready" to master when the mix sounds as good as possible, because the mastering dude can't fix anything with mastering

oh and theres also noise going on at the beginning and the end of the track, also when only one guitar is at one side

You don't have to worry if the guy accepts whole album/demo length of single instrument files. For example GTR1.wav, GTR2.wav, BASS(amp).wav, BASSDI.wav etc etc. Then as the guy is a god that he seems, will twiddle the volumes and do the über loud preset for depth nation and vóila. I bet the guys are still freaked as they notice that their guitarplaying don't sound like presence of god on monitors. But yeah, that's prolly a worth asking (or praying) for the god.. dude.
