A letter from Josh outlining the expenses needed to make The Lesser Key of Solomon...
Every member of A SOUND OF THUNDER is incredibly grateful and honestly shocked at the overwhelming response to the Kickstarter campaign for the new album. However, now that we've reached our initial $10,000 goal, some people have asked us if they can or should still pledge to support the band, while others have actually decreased their pledges.
We've never been a band that poses as rock stars, or that tries to hide anything from our fans. Here is a breakdown of the expenses involved in the absolutely mammoth project that is "The Lesser Key of Solomon":
$21,000 - Main Album Recording
$1,500 - Mastering
$5,500 - "Pleasure Slave" and backer cover song recording
$6,000 - Hardcover book & vinyl manufacturing
$800 - Softcover book
$2,000 - CD manufacturing
$1,000 - Kickstarter t-shirt
$700 - Hockey Jerseys
$200 - Pint glasses
$400 - Thunder-Choir studio time
$3,600 - Album art
???? - West coast tour
$42,700- Total Album Expenses
- $8,500 - Band personal funds already paid
-$13,960 - Current Kickstarter pledges after fees
$20,240- Additional out of pocket expense for band members
Obviously, there is a lot of expense involved in what we're trying to do. We're not just putting out an album that's only music on a disc, to be ripped to your iPod and filed away. We want to give you great music that you can enjoy for years, and along with that give you something tangible and impressive to hold in your hands. I know a lot of our older fans miss the days of impressive gatefold albums by bands like "Yes" where you could lose yourself in music, art, and lyrics all at the same time. This is our attempt to give you something like that, and more. I thank you for the support you've given us in achieving this goal so far, and encourage you to keep on spreading the word!
Best,
Josh Schwartz
