I need an opinion on the bonuses of quad tracking guitar. If i only double track, one L and one R can i still get a big beefy tone. I am having issues with the quad because my lead is drowned out and if i double the lead it becomes muddy. suggestions?

Dual or quad tracking totally depends on the player(s), the music and what you want to achieve. Both give awesome results if it fits the music and the playing. About the problem you have, as already said automation is your friend (even with only 2 guitars, you will probably need automation for that particular issue).

I personally like quad tracking better.
I usually do 2 different amps, each panned 100% left and right, and it always sound thick and heavy as hell!
