Just wondering how many of you guys find that leads are better double tracked like rhythms? I haven't tried it very many time cause I almost think it could be too much.

haha "that randy guy"

Im wondering cause i always have trouble getting my leads to cut through and sound big enough, i was wondering if double tracking would help

I would just automate the rhythm guitars & maybe other instruments also. Turn them down when the solo hits. That'll help them cut thru.
Maybe try add some reverb, delay or something. That will make it sound bigger.

^ Yes that's a great way to do it. Double tracking can work excellent, but it takes some work to get it to work right. Especially with vibrato, you need to have that shit under control.

that randy guy did with ozzy

cause he can.

Triple tracked, in fact.
And it made is sound really horrible.
Probably some of the worst lead tones in metal history are contained on those first two Ozzy albums.
Great guitarist, but geezus christ, had no ear for a good tone.

When I spoke to Buzz from Unearth about their production styles he said they always double track leads, triple if it's harmonized. Then again, if you can play like Buzz and Ken... I would too  But I don't think I'm a tight enough lead player to pull it off.
