Anyone that thinks they don't deserve a headline tour can officially shut the hell up now. They are going to pass the latest from In Flames, Opeth, & Lacuna Coil easily at this rate. They are also going to outdraw tours from Blind Guardian & Stratovarius easily.

Whew....

Regardless, I still think they blow.

From a festival or business point of view, I can see why they will get booked as they are gaining alot of new fans which = $$$$.

IMO I still dont get it, the band is as bland and tedious as they come. Somehow the band caught on with teens and its almost a fad now to like Dragonforce. I mean cmon they love them but dont listen to Sonata Arctica?

:Puke:

I have never liked them and hope due to their obvious american success, will stay off the ProgPower USA lineup for eternity...

And I say that due to buisness ethics and such, as well as what the consumers of this fest have come to expect.

actually... Sonata Arctica are very popular now too. I think this style of music is finally getting the attention it deserves. Power metal has always had the biggest catchiest melodies in any music genre... and any fool can get into it. The only thing that was holding it back was the "cheese factor"... and the old "alternative" generation I've been waiting to finally f'n die has finally lost its grasp. People finally aren't into crappy post rock anymore... and good music is finally getting a fair shake.

And I wholeheartedly welcome it. It's about F'N Time!

Then again, your favorite band in the world is Pagan's Mind...:lol::lol: I'm just kidding buddy, PM is very cool... Dragonforce has been working their asses off since they one, I guess they deserve. They're on the way to become one of the biggest power metal bands (if not already) ever... You'll see...

A few months ago, I suggested that this band would (have) been good for Progpower and every fucking Monday morning quarterback in the world came out on here and took me to task for it and my other choices.

Well, in the spirit of "I won't say I told you so"; each who are guilty (edited by Harvester..you should know better woosta).

Now, that being said, I'm not a Dragonforce fan really. I guess most of us here have known bands worthy of adulation for a hell of a lot longer than Dragonforce was even around so we're going to be miffed over this. However, it IS good in the sense that someone may go out and buy our favorites because they like Dragonforce. That, in itself, is a big plus, I think.

Too, I was just thinking the other night how back around 2000 Blind Guardian seemed poised for this very moment. Their shit on ebay was going through the roof, there was lots of media on them, American distributors were stocking their swag and it just seemed like they were going to do this breakthrough 6 years ago and then they faltered. Too bad because I'd have liked to have seen them in this position. :heh:

Dragonforce IS MAINSTREAM. end of debate. They exploded onto the scene with their 3rd album... and kudos to them.

That's interesting; since when did power, speed metal become mainstream? I'm still waiting for it to hit the radio...

Whoa whoa whoa. I really like DF, but setting aside record/ticket sales, these bands are worlds apart. Sonata has proven themselves with 4 very solid albums, live cds and a dvd. I'd wait a bit to see what direction DF takes their sound, song writing, and career before mentioning those two in the same breath.

I don't get it either 'cause Sonata is just as bland. That is of course just my opinion.

Kudos to DF, even though I'm not a big Power Metal fan, I'm happy for them and their success. I just wish we could get some of the more prog stuff to catch on. Then I'd be one happy camper.:)

I dont think DF is nearly in the same league as Sonata, just singers alone are such a huge difference. The DF songs are nowhere near as good as Sonata. I am a hge SA fan and cant stand DF at all.

Last I read a month ago Lacuna Coil was over 100,000 here. So DF has a way to go but I must say 44+ is impressive. They are the powermetal version of The Darkness imho.

I would love it if Dragonforce in turn helped out others.

I wish they would have some of the more known power bands on tour with them so that kids who know no better would experience them while at the same time allow us to see some of our favs get a chance a touring for a big audience.

Exactly Sonata is just as bland but they had that "sound" long before DF came along yet no ones going gaga over them (In the mainstream).

Personally Im not a fan of the uptempo generic power metal where every song has the uptempo doublebass and the same similiar melodies. I saw PowerQuest with Pagans Mind over in the UK and they bored me to death.

Now with all this said I do still think this is a good starting point. Id rather see DF getting attention, than another shitty garage rock band.

If this somehow sparks a jump in MELODIC METAL than it can only be a good thing.

I've said it before....

Dragonforce are a good example of a band that busts butt, compromises nothing, works the fan base/latest "thing" out there, sticks with what they know, puts on a killer high energy show... Examples?

Anyone recall when MP3.com allowed bands to upload their stuff (4-5 years ago, Internet time = 27 years), and people could buy albums from the band and MP3.com would burn the album and mail it? Guess who rode the top of the Metal charts for God knows how long? Dragonforceeee!

Who got signed to Noise when Noise wasn't really signing good bands (that I can recall) any more? Dragonforceeee!

Who bumped up to a larger label in this day and age of Core bands and commercial property bands? Dragonforceeeee!

Who has amassed 100,000+ friggin people on their MySpace account in which to market too? Dragonforceeeee!

Who got on to Ozzfest, not by having to pay, but by a rep from Ozzfest seeing them live and thinking they kicked so much ass they were offered a main stage opening slot? Dragonforceeee!

Who is hitting all the perfect online marketing spots (AOL Music, MP3.com, Blender, etc etc. with every friggin thing you can think of? You got it.

Like em, Hate em, bands should really watch and learn from what Dragonforce have done with themselves. A lot of it was spearheaded by Herman Li. I recall him being one of the first dudes I met way back when, band wise. He's the same dude today, they're the real deal, nothing fake. I love it, hardly another deserving band out there.

EDIT: By the way, this is all accomplished even after having to change their band name.

EDIT EDIT: They were also one of the first bands making their own videos, working the net by uploading videos, tabs, tunes, blah blah
