Dragonforce......

I hear that they are the fastest power metal band out there. Nobody can play as fast as they can. They would kick ass for prog power! Glenn, they must be at least a consideration!

Being fast does not mean they are very good, despite all that speed they are rather boring. I am sure there are many power metal bands that can play as fast or faster, but what is the point of doing it 90% of the time?

Totally agree :Spin:

Nobodys going to like everything, everybody is not goin to like one thing....
Glad to see a bunch of input on this though...That was my intent.

The boys show talent, speed, AND endurance....90% of the time @ that speed takes a lot out of ya....gotta givum props for that !!!!!

I think the singer is good...not super fantastic....but I think that is what draws me to this band is they are....let see....unique, yeah....they are a lil "different"

That is what I look for more these days. Not everybody is an operetic (sp?) genius....note everybody is a classical master on the guitar....if ya hear enough of the same thing often enough....well, ya get bored

Thanks for all your input....

When Glenn asked for submissions of bands to consider for PPVI I sent him two or three DF MP3's. According to the "How it happened" thread after the lineup was finalized DF wasn't even mentioned. Maybe Glenn wasn't too impressed.

Got my CDs yesterday....only got to listen to the first Dragonforce CD, which was a pretty good remake of the DEMO songs, with a couple of new one....was impressed...

"Technical? Herman Li plays just a handful of EASY arpeggios.... just reallly fast.. I don't find that to be technical... I'm sorry"

Well as others have said technique isn't everything, however sweeping legato style while tapping with two or three fingers in sequence is never the easiest trick in the book to master. Unless of course you've got one of those nice limiters which kill any sound on a string you're not hitting with a sledgehammer (but that takes away all the fun!)

A-Rules.... look at it this way. Dragonslayer was a great first album. But it still has a bit of immaturity and n00bism in it. Their second album, Evilized, had them finding a better sound, a bit more experience in their songwriting, and a better focus on how they want to perform.

The Book of Heavy Metal.... heh heh.... I don't consider ANY of the songs on that album to be filler tracks. Every track rocks, has a damned catchy hook, excellent riffs, and really affects the speedometer of your car. Heh heh. And it's REALLY heavy. A few of the songs are in C and sound sooooo rumbly in my truck. Really proves how good the stereo actually is!

So yeah, keep Dragonslayer, but you must add The Book to your collection. If you are unhappy with that album, I'll gladly buy it off of you!

Bryan, that's probably the problem I saw with Dragonslayer... I checked The Book of Heavy Metal once and didn't quite get hooked... Took another listen last week, and guess what? It's on my next purchases list!!

A bit of a johnny-come-lately to this thread, but DragonForce is an amazing band and I had put in my bid to sponsor them for PP this year -- guess they didn't make the cut. Oh well, there's always next year!

Get Sonic Firestorm. Worlds ahead of the debut, Valley of the Damned.

Um, yeah, I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you there.

I personally thought Sonic Firestorm was lackluster compared to the first album. I thought the songs lost that extra kick.

If I had picked up Sonic Firestorm first, I wouldn't have been disappointed. It's not a horrible album by any means, I just didn't think it compared with the first album in the way that I had hoped. I was expecting to be blown away, when in reality I was only happy with it.
