Here is my dream setlist for the Chronology show with comments/thoughts below. I have some easy substitutes in parentheses that would make me just as happy)
Silhouette (great opening before the lights come on, curtain rises)
Forest of October (sub: In The Mist She Was Standing)
Advent (sub: BRI but Mikael said no way ever)
April Ethereal (w/Prologue)
When (sub: The Amen Corner)
Demon of the Fall
The Moor
Moonlapse Vertigo (sub: Godheads lament)
The Leper Affinity
The Drapery Falls
Blackwater Park (subs: Funeral Portrait or Harvest)
Wreath
Deliverance
Window Pane
In My Time of Need (sub: Closure)
Ghost of Perdition
Reverie/Harlequin Forest
The Grand Conjuration
Ok 18 songs, ha yeah too much, and if I calculated right it comes in right around 3 hrs and 25 mins of songs. So you figure 30 mins of water breaks, goofing with the crowd, a nice ol 4 hr show. Now that is what I call an evening with Opeth Wonder what the band would think?
I guess if I HAD to shave down to 2.5 hrs of material and keep the same list Id cut When, DOTF, TDF, BwP, IMTON, and R/HF. Ive heard a few of these last tour and had to make some sacrifices to make it a realistic list (sniff, love you Drapery).
But anyway, my take on the list, I had at least 1 song from each album and simply keyed to my faves when I spin the discs. Apparently I like a lot of the 10 min+ ones. I also just noticed I have every opening track, ha. Opeth must grab me by the horns like that. Some random thoughts: I love Silhouette and it would give Per a chance to solo, ha. Forest of October is my fave from Orchid. Id also love to hear in the Mist She Was Standing. Black Rose Immortal would be great but does tend to drag so I went with half as long, but equally as powerful Advent. Both do such a good job of showing why Opeth is a very unique band in this metal scene. BwP and MA,YH are prob my two fave albums so really any songs from them would work, but I took my faves. If Amen Corner stays in the list, Im very excited, great underated tune. Still Life was my final purchase of the catalog (was hard to find in stores, finally ordered on Amazon) and took a while to grow on me, but it very much has. Face of Melinda seems to be a fan favorite, but I took the heavy hitters instead. I read in another thread that they wont play Moonlapse Vertigo anymore because its too hard to pull off live with all the guitars. Too bad, great great song, that intro, ahh. I read that Mikael didnt care for the album Deliverance overall, but thought the title track was one of their best ever. I disagree with the former and agree with the latter, its my 3rd fave album. I think Wreath is great, I dont ever see it mentioned in other threads. Its one of their heaviest songs and I can imagine the biggest-ass pit opening when the opening drumbeats would sound. Many of my car rides to work are the combo of Wreath and Deliverance because it gets my blood flowing. I just chose the logical songs for the rest of the way.
Any thoughts? Obviously everyone is going to have different fave songs and lists would very greatly, but I thought this would be a very lively and ear-pleasing set.
