Dream Theatre

Anything except Falling Into Infinity and Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence (albums) are good to start with. I think the previous people listen lots of good songs there so I won't bother...except:

Space-Dye Vest. Heart-wrenching. Oh and try not to start with Train Of Thought. Doesn't give the right idea of the band.

Yeah and it's Dream Theater.

My favourite DT songs iclude,
A Change of Seasons
Scarred
Metropolis Pt.1
Learning to Live
Erotomainia
Voices
The Mirror
Lines in the Sand
This Dying Soul
Home
Beyond this Life
Dance of Eternity
In the name of God
The Glass Prison

For the album to get first, id say Awake. Its DT's most 'complete' work to date and also their best. Its so fucking awsomme that album. Then get anything other than their first album (i forgot the name) Falling into Infinity and 6 degrees of inner turbulance, after you get awake.

Their live DVD is also top class.

Hollow Years
Caught In a Web
Innocence Faded
Lifting Shadows Off a Dream
Yeah, you nailed most of 'em, but I'd add The Glass Prison, Blind Faith, Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence, The Silent Man, Through Her Eyes, Home, and Take Away My Pain. Oh, and The Spirit Carries On sucks.

Any true fan of prog wouldnt say that about Falling into Infinity. That album shows them breaking away from technical showboating and venture into actual songwriting which I'm sure so many progmetal fans haven't the smallest clue of anyway. DT are an awesome band but are blown out of proportion by so many prog metal fans. The more people talk about them the more I noticed their many flaws but I still have much respect for them.
Good DT songs are:
All of Images and Words
All of Awake except Mirror(absolutely amazing album)
Only the song A Change of Seasons which IMO is prolly their best song.
All of Falling into Infinity except Burning my soul with very honorable mentions to Hells Kitchen+Lines in the Sand and the epic, Trial of Tears.
With the edition of Rudess I feel DT went into technical overdrive and lost much of their previous drive towards songwriting.
Scenes from a Memory is awesome if your into technical chops.
6 Degrees is a much better album the Scenes IMO, best songs are the title track, Blind Faith, Misunderstood and The Great Debate.
Since I didn't really see much happening for them in recent albums I didn't bother even DLing or buying ToT.

I'm not a über-tr00 prog fan. ;) Got a problem? I'm just telling him my preferences, and Falling Into Infinity doesn't fit there.

Just don't mention them and say to listen to the rest. Cause you might derail the sob from listening to the good shit and send em on to the same lame progmetal crap regurgitated onto new CDs with new titles. So yes I had a problem.
