Drudkh - Estrangement

So far, I'm finding this disc to be a disappointment. Not bad per say, just not as good as I was hoping for. As of now, I'd put this well below AA and BioW.

Zod

I just said the exact same thing to you on e-mail. I agree wholeheartedly, but I've only given it one listen....maybe on the 5th or 6th listen, I'll start to appreciate it.

Actually, I may have spoken too soon. On my second listen, it really started to connect. That's a good sign, I hope. Maybe it'll be great on the 5th listen.

Those of you who like Forgotten Legends should like this one.

Yep, my copy came today as expected. I listened to the first track mp3 last week, to kinda hold the twitching down, and deemed it "Forgotten Legends Part 2", just off that track. And now, I've listened to it in its entirety, and its definitely what I deemed it.

Still need to give it much more time.

Okay, mine showed up. Haven't listened yet, will in a bit.

Autumn Aurora is still my favourite, but Blood in Our Wells could easily overtake that upon further listen (have only owned that one for about a month) as it is simply amazing. Love the old school metal bits, they aren't cheesy at all and just completely gel. It's like The Darkness but serious, in a completely better way. Not the easiest feat to pull off.

Wasn't the biggest fan of The Swan Road, although the solos were great and it is hardly a bad album. Forgotten Legends is good, but I never thought it was amazing.

The others I have yet to hear.

Blahblahblah.

I am enjoying this I must say. Not what I expected, which is just fine. Killer basslines, sounds like Billy Gould and god damn. Hooray, another wiener!

This is like a mixture of all of their previous releases. One song more would've make it better and of course the solos are not as good as last time, but the overall feeling and interesting bass works great for me.

I think I just found out today how good Blood In Our Wells is.

Whoa...I think I have just got here too.

I was always a "they will never beat AA, and TSR sucks" person, so I don't think I ever gave this album a proper chance. In fact, the only reason I've revisited it is because I was planning on selling my vinyl and wanted to give it another chance, but I'm keeping this bad boy! This album really is brilliant. I had kind of lost interest in hearing their new stuff, but now I'm really interested in this new one.

Speaking of vinyl, does anyone have an Autumn Aurora to sell? Unlikely, but that's one I really want. Also, I don't think it's been mentioned, but this label are releasing picture disc of the first 4 albums over the next few months.

First spin --> dustbin
Second spin --> ordered

The solo on the closing track makes me think of Pink Floyd, which is kind of weird, but kind of cool really. Otherwise I agree about the album being a synthesis of their career, which raises the point: should they put an end to Drudkh and move on to something else (ie. more of the same under another monicker)?

So far the formula goes: BIOW > TSR > AA = E > FL

Forgotten Legends > Blood In Our Wells > Autumn Aurora. Haven't heard the others yet.

That solo at the end definitely reminded me of Pink Floyd as well. Great track to end a great album IMO.

BIOW > Autumn Aurora = Estrangement > Forgotten Legends > The Swan Road
The rest ain't worth mentionning.
