Number 2 is the real blastbeat, that's the beat utilized by most Death Metal bands. Number 1 is most commonly used by Black Metal bands.
Don't know if the patterns you describe have any particular names, don't think they can be named without a time signature and a longer description of the pattern. The patterns you describe is very basic stuff though.

Like Flo....:tickled:
I like stuff that uses all different kinds of blastbeats....like Cryptopsy! Ta-Da!

I use these 3 different kinds of blastbeats in my band...

SHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHS
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

SHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHS
B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC (cymbal)
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

Flo does the last one alot....its his trademark, kinda. I got it from him.:p
Remember! Creativness counts! (Asgeir is good at that)

ok thanks guys!

Me and my friend had an arguement about which was the "real" blast beat!... I said the first alternative and he said the second... And played real fast was what I meant yes ;)

Fookin' 'ell! Flo is insane! My favourite drummer along with Sean Reinert and Asgeir of course

By the way.. Well met all, I'm new to this forum :)

Mae Govannen!
Yes, Flo is insane!
And so is Asgier of course...quite technical stuff!

Hey Asgier, who are your favorite drummers (besides yourself;)) metal or otherwise?

less we forget shannon of death....fucking great and technically masterful drummer. he and asgeir have similar styles, which is my favorite style to play as well.

I enjoy Ray Herrera (ex Fear Factory), I think Tomas Haake does some interesting stuff, and of course the classics (Neil Peart, Bill Bruford, John Bonham, Alex Van Halen, Ginger Baker, Bill Ward, Nicko McBrain, Nick Menza........from the time before a drummer's worth was measured by his musicality rather than the speediness of his double kicks) Charlie Benante and Dave Lombardo are both excellent also.
