Honestly IMO it really depends on the player, if you have a tight drummer than you may not need the click. I was jamming with a guitarist a few weeks back and he had no idea of song structure. Amazing player, but just couldnt write anything because the timing would literally change in between notes and shit if that makes sense. So I sat down with him for a day and anything we played had to be played to a metronome. After that first day his whole concept of timing and structure drastically changed and his parts started to flow better and make more sense. So i went to record him with the click on and he fucked up every 4 seconds. I turned the click off and he nailed the take perfectly because mentally he kept it going. Id just say strongly emphasize getting the "musician" to at least try and practice with a click the majority of the time. Sometimes it will fuck people up on the recording end, so if they can play the shit tight enough without the click then do it. <--- if this post made any sense, cool. If not, shit happens.
