PULVERISING FRENCH BLACK METAL WITH AN APOCALYPTIC BENT.
At this point, a quarter of a century after the first wave of black metal, there's not much to be achieved with blanket agression alone. Some have gone the progressive route, others have taken a more OTT symphonic slant while Dwellers Of The Twilight, with their programmed drums and distorted industrial edge are clearly trying to write the soundtrack to the apocalypse. It's not an entirely new sound - see Anaal Nathrakh for one- but they have enough of their own ideas, not to mention a viciously driving energy to make this an occasionally jaw-dropping debut.
ROCKSOUND UK (7 out of 10)
With incredibly hyper-fast drumming and buzzing guitars lashed around demonic vocals, Dwellers are intent on out blackening the hardiest of souls. The mission: to flay skin, leaving the bones bleached and sandblasted. An initial inability to stand out sufficiently in the mire is dismissed once the punishing "Trail Of The Foes" erupts. The drums are at the core, pounding like a machine built with the legs of a horse and arms of the behemoth. "Blessed Heir" utilises hypnotic, repeated riffing and keyboard noise to buil momentum, before allowing the drums free-reign again, whereas "Crow Of Sadness" and "Trail Of The Foes" remain unrelenting brutal assaults of grinding black metal.
For fans of : Anaal Nathrakh, Darkthrone, Averse Sefira, Pig Destroyer.

Dass aus Frankreich mitunter seltsame Bands kommen war mir bekannt. DWELLERS OF THE TWILIGHT scheinen so eine Band zu sein.
Jedenfalls klingen die Herrschaften aus unserem Nachbarland durchaus seltsam. Ich würde gar sagen bescheiden. Es sei denn, man findet schlecht gespielten, mies produzierten Black Metal gut. Dann sollte "Grey" vielleicht das Album der Wahl sein. Aber jetzt mal ernsthaft. Welche Drogen muss man sich einpfeifen um heutzutage wirklich so einen Haufen Mist auf Platte zu pressen? Das Schlagzeug holpert permanent neben der Spur wie ein wildgewordenes Karnickel. Die Gitarren summen wie angriffslustige Wespen, und wenn man schön die Ohren spitzt, kann man sogar hinter dem ganzen Gerausche so etwas wie Gesang heraushören.
Traurig, aber wahr. Es dauerte bis zum dritten Song, bis ich das flüsternde Kreischen hinter dieser Lärmfassade erkannte. Wer braucht sowas? Was soll sowas? Ich bin ziemlich ratlos. Vielleicht Leute denen "Transilvanian Hunger" zu sauber produziert war? Ich hab ja echt nichts gegen räudigen Black Metal, aber hier hört der Spaß auf. Wo hat das Label Eichenwald Industries (schöner Name auch!) denn diese Kaspertruppe aufgetrieben?
Wer für solchen Käse ernsthaft sein Geld zum Fenster herauswirft, dem ist nicht mehr zu helfen. Das Infoblatt faselt was von "blasting, apocalyptic modern Black Metal with cutting edge...", doch ich muss leider sagen: nicht modern, schon gar nicht apokalyptisch, sondern ganz ganz großer Dreck.
