How long, in all opinion, is long enough to wait for someone to get back with you on something you won from ebay? I won an amp on the 21st (a Peavey Supreme Transtube Head), and I paid within an hour after I won. The dude had an automated response upon winning the auction: "Hey thanks, I'll send a tracking number asap". In the fine print, it says he will ship within 3 days of cleared payment. He hasn't responded to me at all, other than the automated message...I've been playing it cool waiting before hassling him. Am I just being impatient?

This is the biggest purchase I've made off of ebay ($128, $35 for shipping), so I just think I'm weary of getting screwed over...especially over something that isn't the best thing in the world, I just bought it for a backup head.

Normally I find folk give me a message within 24 hours of winning the auction. Some hardly communicate at all though.

Drop him a message and just ask him how things are progressing.

well if its been more then 3 days since you paid him and you've tried to contact him file a complaint to ebay and paypal - you have your life to get on with. i only had to do it once in the past and i got all my dosh back fine. most of the time i pay once the auction finishes / i buy it and i receive a mail saying its been shipped usually the next day or at the latest 2 days after the item ended

if he is a scammer you dont want to be waiting too long

How was the guys feedback? If he has good feedback I wouldn't write him off straight away.
Some dudes are just very quiet on ebay and don't email unless they've been emailed first. They just send out the stuff once they've got payment.

How can he wait for the money to clear? I thought you had to have a tracking number or positive feedback from the buyer before you could get your money.

I haven't sold on ebay for 2 years because I hate their policies.

They really changed that much with the rules? I used them about 5 months ago and it was still the same as always....

I just stick to selling on forums now. Been ripped off 5 times on Ebay, not once on forums.

I'd go back to the listing and see what he listed as his listed as his "handling time" which is defined as "The handling time is the number of business days the seller will take to ship the item after receiving your cleared payment. A payment is considered "cleared" after the money from the buyer has been deposited into the seller’s account. If the buyer pays by PayPal, the payment may clear immediately. However, in categories where permitted, if the buyer pays by check, money order, or eCheck, it may take several days." - taken from the ebay site.

I usually set mine as three business days so it gives me time to get the item packed up and off to the shipper.

But yea, some sellers/buyers on ebay are non-communicators. Not me - I send out an email a day giving the purchaser an update, even if I'm simply waiting for the tracking info.

Yeah it's actually Paypal that puts on hold on the payment (via Paypal's site):

When will PayPal release the payment hold for an eBay item?

Your funds will be released after 21 days. We may release funds earlier when one of the following occurs:

The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay

3 days pass after we confirm the item was delivered*

If you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the eBay item hold, we may hold the payment until the problem is resolved, even if the claim, chargeback, or reversal occurs after the hold is released.

I will only put something on eBay if I can't get it to sell on Amazon or Craigslist. Between eBay and Paypal fees you get raped pretty hard, especially if you were selling something expensive.

Well, it said they payed him by the next morning...I payed for it, through paypal, an hour after I won (11pm or something). So he's been officially payed since the 22nd. It's the 25th now. I kicked him a message today saying "I won the auction for that amp the other day, how are things coming?". Nothing more, nothing pushy, just lookin for an update. I guess I'll see what he says/if he says/when he says.

I sent a nastygram this morning, saying it's been 7 days and I just want to know if I should be expecting anything or just get Paypal to refund my money now. He responded, apologizing for not staying in contact as he has been sick since the auction. Said he'd drop it off at UPS on his way to the doctor. Still irritating, but I'm glad he got back with me. Lookin forward to jammin with one of the best SS amps I've played (in combo form, previously).
