Hi Guys,

Couple of days ago I bought 3 shure sm57's on ebay. The bidder had more then 40 positive feedbacks. So I thought that looked pretty good and trust worthy enough.

Now I'm not so sure anymore. This morning I first got an email from PayPal saying they started an investigation to this sell since he deleted the auction from ebay this morning. Very weird all of a sudden!

Offcourse it's nice that PayPal initiated this but I'm just curious if any of you have delt with this before or had something similar happen before and what the outcome was.

Thanks,
Geert

Yeah that happened to me once.... Never got my money back.... It's crazy things with ebay and paypal that made me stop buying things online for a few years....

Me too, i only got half of the amount, $200 bucks, the fucker kept the other 200, from then, not even 50 positive feedback is enough for me (well, it depends on how long the seller is registered), i always doble check everything, feedback, time as a member, read all the feedback, which is really helpfull. Probably, since paypal started the investigation, you gonna be ok, or maybe the guy did sent the mics.

I have a few stories. Most recently...

I bought an OSP road case for rack gear recently from a guy on Ebay. I was a little worried because I tried contacting him multiple times after the auction to inquire about shipping/tracking with no response. After about 2 weeks UPS shows up with the package and everything is good. I open up the box and there is another small box about a foot long and about six inches wide. Inside that box are the casters for the case. Ok... I remove the casters and at the bottom of the little box is a pamphlet congratulating me on my new FLESHLIGHT and inviting me to try different ones molded from various porn stars.

I guess the dude traded in music for masturbation, and I'm guessing that's why he was too busy to answer my questions!

Dodgy Shure mics on Ebay is pretty common. I had a situation a couple of years ago where I bought a 58 and a week after I received it I got a similar email from ebay/paypal saying that the seller was under investigation and paypal automatically refunded me. The guy appeared to be legit and the mic works fine, so I got a freebie 58!

Apparently the dodgy ones are really well made and the easiest way to tell if it's fake is by weighing it as cosmetically they look the same but there's a weight difference. I never got around to weighing mine, but it sounds like any 58 I've ever had so haven't bothered.
