Editing guitars...

Let's say I mic an amp and take a DI at the same time. Then let's say I group the two tracks and use the DI track as my reference for cuts and moves (since you can make out transients much better and all that, obviously)

will this fly? I'm cutting and moving both the tracks in all the same places and times, so I think it should work but.... ?

That's what I would do, but I don't have a reamp box, plus I'm actually happy with the miced tone for once in my life haha.

I know grouping also works when comp editing in sonar 8, anyone done it with the comp function in logic? Works as well?

Yep, I comp together the DI tracks and then reamp, it works great.

It certainly works, but sometimes I feel the mic'd track doesn't glue the way it should. There are some "gaps" in editing points. Maybe it's just an impression.

on a side note, i guess that's exactly what happened to trivium - ascendancy.
don't get me wrong, i'm no trivium basher - actually i really like the ascendancy tbh - but those galloping riffs are just so ridiculously tight, i'm willing to bet they were edited to hell and back.
