Effigy of the Forgotten or Pierced Form Within?

i've started to get into suffocation but i'm not sure which album to begin with
help me out please
I like Effigy, but that was what, at least 12 years ago? I'd go for bands that have taken what Suffocations pioneered at to another level. Internal Suffering, Pyaemia, Disavowed or Soils of Fate. And many American bands.

Pierced From Within. It's both more tech and more catchy at the same time. If I'm not mistaken, Roadrunner is re-releasing both CDs as one. That would be the thing to get. Effigy Of The Forgotten is very good though. In fact, my favorite Suffocation song, Liege Of Inveracity, is on that CD.

You really think that the Suffocation clones are better than Suffocation? I've never heard those bands, but I checked out Deeds Of Flesh because they supposedly sound like Suffocation and I think they fucking suck.

Deeds of Flesh? They are not a clone, they are a legend of their own and their music is slightly different. I can't see how any death metal fan can dislike them. Check out Reduced to Ashes, their latest effort. It just fucking rules.

As for the Suffocation clones, do you honestly think the music is not developing? I am not saying Suffocation are bad, they in a way triggered the whole thing. But musicians get better, more extreme, they try to beat their predecessors. Internal Suffering are not very innovative, but they do sound at least as good as Suffo, if not better. Soils of Fate? They had Kevin Talley on the drums recording their latest album, so that IS in a way Suffocation. Other bands have even more extreme drummers, but I did not list those in this thread because the music is slightly different to the Suffocation sound.

Exactly! I DL'd 'Reduced To Ashes' when it was released and was really put of by the poor production, but i DL'd it last week and made myself listen to it and lovin' it. Its a superb album.

Check out Decrepit Birth's "...And Time Begins" for some more Suffocation-esque DM, but they take to speed up a few notches as well, yet another superb Unique Leader released, along with 'Spawn of Possession - Cabinet', 'Severed Savior - Brutality Is Law', and 'Psycroptic - Scepter of The Ancients'. Great year for Unique Leader.

LOL! Decrepit BIRTH it is, not BIRD. He wasn't pulling my leg after all! (Maybe you saw my post on Decrepit Birth in the 10 essential death metal albums I MUST own! thread yesterday). Yeah, it rules, much like most of Unique Leader's releases. I will try to get my hands on it soon. I have "Scepter of the Ancients" and "Cabinet" in mp3's, excellent stuff and Psycroptic have gotten so much better on this album. Amazing.

Effigy Of The Forgotten for me. I think the slow, über-technical passages in Pierced From Within can be rather boring, to be frank. Effigy is faster and groovier. Brilliant record.

Breeding The Spawn is good too, but the production is absolutely horrible. It's all bassy and muddy. However, it has some killer songs on it, and would be a great CD is the production were up to par with Pierced From Within.

i've managed to order the double CD that Roadrunner re-released and coming in two days :)
Cool. For some wierd reason I have never seen it at the local CD store (which is usually pretty cool in terms of underground music). It is definitely worth getting - two death metal classics in one from one of the best death metal bands ever.

Which is better? :guh:

I don't know if you're a Slayer fan, but that's like asking what's better, Hell Awaits or Reign in Blood.

I think both albums are awesome and incredible... I remember when it was the most brutal and technical stuff out there, for the most part.

Get them both is what I say :loco:

They have that double CD offer thing dont they, you can buy effigy of the forgotten and pierced from within in a double album thing, s'what i got, its a great deal but not great if you want the two albums separate
