Egotism, Arrogance, and Metal

I posted this thread to establish my moral authority of all of you sinful heathens.

I'm elitist, egotistical, arrogant, etc. in some respects, mostly in that I see the complex metal bands I listen to as superior to all popular music such as hip hop, pop punk, pop rock, etc. However, I never insist that a metal band that I like is better than a metal band I don't like which has equally good musicians. In other words, I am not arrogant towards other metalheads, but I will for instance sometimes let hip hoppers with an attitude know that metal shits all over their rap, though I try not to do that so much anymore.

Thats pretty much me. I have a couple of punk friends, and since I listen to *some* punk I don't act that elitist to them. The rest of my friends listen to metal (though some of it is nu) and the others don't listen to much music at all.

This should be common knowledge by now, though sadly it doesn't appear to be. People who resort to ad hominems are a sad lot indeed. They can be dealt with in funny and entertaining manners, the best being socratic irony:

Even if you'll most likely never turn the offender in question around, you and a lot of other people will get a good laugh out of it, and no one will take the offender seriously.
