EMG 18v Mod for bass...good idea?

It made a major difference in my LTD B500. I'd wager to say that the 18V mod is much more noticeable on bass than guitar. :kickass:

Never tried. Don´t know if this information may be useful, but the 35DC manual says that when using two of them on a bass, each pickup must have it´s own battery.
What do you think that changed on the tone when you did it on your Ltd M1000?

Still haven't tested it enough to be sure....one thing I know its its hotter! Added a few db to the output. I took some before and after DI clips to demonstrate, when I get some time in the next little while I may post.

Also, pretty sure I have 40DCs in there....I will double check, but do they need a battery to each pup as well?

I did it on all my basses with EMG's. 2 pick-ups, 2 batteries.

more headroom, more punch. very recommended for low tunings as well.

Sweet man, so you wired your batteries in series? Or one to each pickup? I haven't cracked mine open yet, gonna do that tonight I think...got some new strings on the way as well so it will be a giant maintenance session tonight!

series. the link posted by metalstatic says it all.

I also use the EMG BTC control and just wired in a third battery on my Steinbergers, but I am not too happy with the result, almost clipping when tone's fully open... anyone else using the same booster?

Cool man, gonna do that up tonight...actually going to do the reverse of that diagram: wire for 2 EMGs then create a quick joiner if I want to put it back (just because of the battery compartment issues....so far I like the modded setup in my guitar so I am looking forward to my bass tones!

have fun with soldering. ;-)

I'll have a look at the frequency switches of the BTC here to see if a frequency change helps.

My bass uses a passive pickup, but the circuit is active, does anyone know if wiring it for 18v would make a difference?

Hmm, I don't think so, since the headroom increase is more for the sharp transients that overload the preamps on active pickups - worth a try though, I guess! (unless it might do some damage that my n00b ass is unaware of)
