Just put these in last night!!

Special thanks to everyone at EMG (especially James Kearney and Scott Ferrara) for getting me these pickups so fast. I might be one of the first people to already have these installed!
These are the brand new EMG Chrome 81 and 85 pickups that debuted at the NAMM show this month. They are now in my 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom. I had a set of black EMG 81 and 89R in there before, but I wanted to try the chromes for a more traditional look. I hope in the future EMG will come out with a chrome 89R model for the neck, I really like the coil split option with that pickup.
These pickups sound pretty much the same to me as the kick ass black models that EMG has made for years, they just look a bit more at home in a guitar like mine. If there is any tone difference, it might be that they are just a little bit brighter overall. They sound great and look incredible. Way to go EMG, another great product!!

So what he's saying is that they don't do anything special?
And how much more do they cost now?

Well, like shredhead mentioned some might expect maybe a better sound? As far as I can tell they just changed the pickup covers and while there's nothing wrong with that I don't see how it's such a big deal?

Also, could you just use normal text?

Well, it's got more to do with looks than anything. I always thought the EMG's look kinda out of place on Les Pauls & this fills the gap. Great idea, even though it may not be everyone's thing.

Here is a "before" shot with the black EMG's. I think they look great as well. I just wanted something more traditional looking, so when EMG told me about the new chrome models... I said Hell Yeah!
