ENGL content. E570 through Savage. DM.

Just got both the pre and amp in the last 3 weeks, so I decided to see what I could get out of it. Our vocalist is away, so I did everything myself. Old strings, no tuning, bass strings are 2 years old etc, just wanted to go from scratch. I didn't even put the fades at the end. So let us know what you think. Ive got the E850/100 coming soon, so the Savages power section has to make do at the moment. Cheers.

Very nice man, sounds like it's inspired by Nile. Really like the sound. Only thing is that vocals sound a bit too dry to me (maybe a bit more compression, some slight reverb and a bit softer in the mix), but they are well performed considering you don't do vocals normally. I have a E570 too, but never got good results with it. This inspires me to try it again.

Cheers man. Yeah, Im not a good singer, lol. I'm wrapped with the E570. Always read great reviews for them, especially for death metal, and always dreamed about owning one, but the price was way to high here in Oz. Then one came up on ebay, and here I am. Can't wait to try it through the dedicated poweramp when it arrives. I did use a Maxon 808 in front of it as well. But digging the pre for this stuff.

Very Nile-ish instead :)

The guitar sound has something cool in it but also something that annoys me, that sounds like you used lots of drives in the Maxon or something. It sounds very fizzy and maybe fuzzy and just like a big wall of distortion but no chunk and definition.
I would like to hear a clip without the Maxon (and i guess you would have to raise the gain on the Savage a bit to compensate).

Thanks mate. The Maxon settings are gain on 0 and the level on full. Tone in the centre. No gain at all used on it. Didn't use the gain on the Savage as I used the E570 pre into the poweramp of the Savage. It's a big wall alright, but somehow I think that more definition may take some of that DM sheen away from it. I'm a big fan of the Rutan/Cannibal tones. If I screw with the treble side of things (as I tried), it seemed to get very dark, very quickly.

I mixed up the Savage and the E570 actually (i meant that you might have used too much gain on the E570 and not the Savage).
So if you say your reference is very saturated DM tone a la Rutan/CC, then i guess the only thing that bugs me with your tone is that there seem to be some nasty frequencies in your tone, that i don't hear in the CC stuff. Not sure where they come from though :(

Did you use the contour and mid cut switches on the E570 ?
And did you use channel 3 or channel 4 ?

And how is your treble knob compared to the presence knob ?
