ENGL Fireball w/GUITARHACKS IMPULSE(S)!!

this is exactly what I do, but raising the master volume has no effect, as you are essentially bypassing the poweramp stage and using only the preamp.

so any master volume controls or any controls pertaining to the power-stage section have no effect (usually presence).

this is the main reason I started messing about with impulses, to reamp late at night, since I work overnights and during my days off I do all my work for bands (between midnight and 7am, haha).

works for me...

Ah cool, I see. I will try that for sure. I wonder if the resonance would have any effect? Hmmm...

I'm still in the beginning stages of getting my tone. I admire yours a lot dude. I'm definitely getting better sounds with these impulses. But I want my guitar tracks to stand out more.

I think I need a good compressor. Would you highly reccomend that Sonalksis one CJ?

-Joe

Hmmm tried doing the standby recording, no signal to the Firebox??

Excuse my ignorance, but do you plug your guitar into the regular amp input when doing this CJ?

-Joe

thanks dudes!

Gav, you won't regret it bro! Now I need an actual V30 cab, I looove the sound so much more compared to the GT-75s.

Umm... as for guitar, they're quad tracked all with the same settings on the amp and the same impulse (BBAE-Half i think it was).

Post-stuff was only Sonalksis for filtering, URS A10 and BBE with controls at 0 (i believe it adds harmonics, can't hurt I guess, haha).

The fireball has this little fluke, or at least mine does, to where a little tiny bit of sounds comes through the cab, even when it's in bypass. So all I do is turn the amp on as if I was going to warm the tubes, plug in a cable from the fx-send jack into a DI and from their straight into my DAW.

i actually put the impulse on the input channel and monitor as well as record through it so there's no going back, haha. works for me.

and gav, intro was a bunch of different plug-ins processed offline to the intro guitars.. i used this plug-in called old gloria i know, which actually fucked up the end of the left guitar, with this hugge glitchy digital sound. i thought it was cool so i further mangled it and made it work.

When you say Sonalksis for filtering to you mean the Sonalksis TBK Creative Filter plugin?

no, i meant high/low-pass filters. i like the sonalksis sv-517 alot for HP/LP on things..

and to J .Davis, like I said, in most amps you will get NO signal for the fx send when in standby, but for some reason I DO on my Fireball.

you'll have to turn the amp on and just keep the volume low dude..

I've recommended to the Sonalksis comp to a few people for sure. Not on guitars though, I prefer to not use any compression on guitars.. probably the only thing I don't like a little comp. on.

the Sonalksis is killer for 2-buss work and vocals, IMO.

I could never really figure out how to dial the Sonalksis on any stuff, and always opted for the simpler compressors on my stuff (ie Waves Rcomp and SSL Bus Comp).

Could you by any chance shed any light on some sample settings you may use on the Sonalksis, on a certain part of the track, CJ?

i don't think I used the Sonalksis on this track, but i pretty much always use it on vocals, and for that i'm usually at:

3:1 ratio, 0.5 att, 300 release, detector type 1, sidechain filter 3rd from left (can't really tell too much a difference w/these modes)

crush at about 50% or so. limiter off and hitting about 8dB of compression.

it's a fairly clean compressor, which works well for vocals and stuff that may not be geling too well with something like the G-Comp.

Ahhhh yes, that's right. Same thing on my Fireball, I believe it has to do with the warning system built in that is supposed to work when a tube fails.

What specically do you use on your guitars? Just some light EQ?

for my own stuff, just EQ. i wouldn't call it light, but it's nothing special. Sonalksis + URS API EQ and i'm good.

dude, please write more stuff like this. haha, i fucking love that its total meshuggah style, only without the cheesy singing.:kickass:
