ENGL Savage

That's what I was afraid of. I hate Billy Hyde. They don't seem to have any Savages in stock... or at least their site isn't showing any. Doesn't show the SE either.

The funny thing about them is that when I've made an inquiry about something that they didn't have in stock, soon after they would have it in. Not that they get it in just for you, but that's what I've noticed, so it might be worth a phone call or two.

When I got my Powerball from Paramatta Music (Sydney, which has now been taken over by Billy Hydes ) I tried it out and Billy Hydes and then ordered it from them. Billy Hydes had it for $3300 and I said "Can we work out a better price". They wouldn't budge. So I called up Paramatta Music and spoke to a guy and asked him about the Fireball and Blackmore (as Billy Hydes didn't have them either) and he is like "I'll give you the Powerball for $2900". So I got it off him and saved $400. Was only $50 to ship it down.

Moral of the story. Try at Billy Hydes and buy it somewhere else . A mate in Adelaide got his ENGL Savage for $2850 from Deringhers (sic) Music in Adelaide.

Doesn't Acle use a Powerball? I can't say I'm too fond of the rhythm sound on those Fell Silent tracks.

@Goddamn Guitar: I agree about the 5150.. but damn.. what a sound. Although, over-used. That's the problem. I want something slightly more versatile (as long as rhythm and lead are good, I'm happy) and able to get a more brutal rhythm sound. I'm leaning on the Savage atm.. but I really wouldn't mind stacking an SE alongside it.

I use a Savage Se.
FWIW all guitar tracks done on the tracks on our myspace are pod xt.

Savage se is pretty similar to the powerball. Has a little less gain and alittle less low end but sounds more organic and less compressed. More open sounding.

What do you guys think of this amp?

I've been quite impressed with its recorded rhythm sounds in the past... but I haven't heard much about whether it's versatile (4 channels... but, how useful are they?).

Any comments about these in general? What cabs do they tend to pair well with? Do they like front-end boosts? etc.

The other guitarist in my band has one. Man that thing sounds huge! I don't know if it's versatile but for metal, it's by far the best amp I have heard. The thing is you don't need pedals with it, it's so tight, responsive and brutally heavy already.

i love what i've heard of them. I believe The last Darkane Album is Savage. The tone on that album is sweet.
