just delete the waves mercury bundle or whatever you were given by the powers of the internet sharing and learn the basics. some good pointers were given earlier in this thread.
I completely disagree. There is sooo much you can learn from basic presets if your just starting out mixing. You learn what frequencies are generally boosted and cut on certain instruments, different ways to EQ (high pass, low pass, high shelf, low shelf, curve sizes etc.), and sometimes just learn cool tricks. In no way am i saying just throw an eq preset on your guitar and you are DONE, but you can go through a few different presets on your guitar tone then pick the one that sounds the closest to how you want it sound then tweak accordingly. Thats my advice to beginners, just remember most guitar presets are not made for heavily distorted guitar.
