Which of these, or something else is your favorite for that very mid focused reference? I'd like to pair something up with my DSM3's+sub and HD600 to check some critical balance etc. issues.

I have the D5's and I think they are very good for the price. I had Rokkit 5's before and no question my mixes improved a lot when I switched to D5's.

That being said I have never tried the other speakers you mentioned so I have no idea how they compare.

Only owned one pair of monitors so far and it's the D5's and I'm quite happy with them even though I have nothing to really reference them to.

Mixcube or any other single driver speaker. Anything without a cross over should give you a different perspective. Sum it to mono and that will give you a cheap and easy way to hear the mix from a completely different angle.

Thanks for the great insight. Think I have to start lookin' the mixcubes asap.

Would it be more beneficial btw to just run one avantone/other speaker and check shit on mono, instead of running basic stereo setup?

The Equators I think might be too "good" sounding for what you want to use them for.

Complete BS. The "quality" of the sound is irrelevant. The reason Auratones, Avantones, D5's etc excell at midrange clarity is the single point coaxial design. A monitor sounding like shit doesn't yield anything useful compared to a great sounding monitor.
