Ermz compendium

If this is good, which it most definitely will be judging by the other guides you could sell it for a pretty decent amount. I'd definitely pay $50+ for this.

Wow, to be honest I was tossing up between $5 and $10 for a digital download. Have I underestimated its worth so much?

My concern was chiefly in regards to people sharing and pirating the book if I charge a 'regular' book rate. Making it worth a disposable amount of pocket change I think creates incentive for people to stay legit. Though I have to off-set that with the fact that roughly 7 years of engineering experience have gone into writing it, and I don't want it to feel entirely throwaway.

Any more opinions on this? I was going to start a thread down the track, asking what you all feel would be reasonable for a book full of these guides, but we might as well do it here.

Bear in mind, this is roughly what's included in the book:

Foreword/introduction to basic mixing concepts and methodology
Drum mixing guide
Bass mixing guide
Guitar mixing guide
Synth mixing guide
Acoustic instrument mixing guide
Vocal mixing guide
Master bus processing
Conclusion

So the scope of the text has expanded a fair way beyond what I originally imagined.

10 at least. If it`s over 20$ I`ll usually start to think "do I really need this?". Maybe it`s just me and my poverty.

Yes, you have to bear in mind that this guide seems to appeal to a lot of students, or people in that late-teen/early adult stage, where money can be scarce. It's probably also the demographic most prone to just download the living hell out of everything as opposed to purchasing. Wonder if a poll would help paint a picture here.

Although I would pay $50+ as I have for other similar titles, such as the mixing guide by Mike Senior. I think between $10 and $25 is more realistic if you're trying to avoid piracy. Have you contemplated trying to get publishing for this?

You realise with publishing etc ermz will have to up us price by a considerable amount!

Hey Ermz, I'd say you're absolutly on the right track with your pricing of around $10 - $15. Having sold many things on-line and helped a lot of peaple sell stuff on line IMO you're way better of selling lots for a few bucks than a few for a higher price.

Have you considered a 'minimum price'. You let people pay the price they want, but with a bottom price of say 12 bucks.

I'm not sure if the distribution service I plan to use offers such an option, but I'll look into it when the time comes.

We'll get to physical copies and all that fancy jazz down the track. The idea isn't quite that fully fledged yet! We'll see if there is any publishing interest when the eBook itself hits the net.

Damn, are people really that cheap bastards?? For all the time and effort put into this thing i wouldn't go lower then 25$ and maybe 35-45 for a physical book.
If you would add a session, with full drums and mix then you could really have a good, interesting educational book :)

Good luck to you!

Soundsamples before and after. Detailed info what was done to the tracks to achieve the "after". That would be something educational, also explaining everything step by step. Entire mix this way. Goldmine for you Ermz.

I will agree with the others -- $10-$15 seems reasonable for an e-book, but I would easily pay $25-$50 for a hard physical copy depending on how robust it is, has pics, softcover/hardcover, etc. :)

Any discount for us over here in the US since currency rate conversions rape us and the US dollar is worth arse?
