Hicktown New York.
....vs iphone 4 lol.

So anyway my dilemma is this, I have about $700 dollars saved from work and
I'm starting school again
so I won't be able to make that kind of money anymore.
I was looking into getting Waves SSL and upgrading my Nuendo 5 to Cubase 6
but after recording a bunch of my friends and a few bands I've realized that everyone in this town has the
shittiest equipment especially guitars.

I personally don't play guitar at all and don't really have much
desire to learn which is why I'm a little hesitant to buy one
but I figure it's better than dealing with shitty equipment
(literally one kid's pickup was actually falling out).
Do you guys have a "studio" guitar for occasions
like that or do you just let them use whatever shit equipment they
bring in?

Oh and the iphone 4...is well the iphone 4 and its coming out on verizon...soo like yeah. ;)

All I can say is: Iphone = tacky. Actually, all Apple shit = tacky (except the computers)

Ouch. Well its def better than my current phone. Its a motorolla droid and its so fucked that it doesn't even receive text messages anymore. (I don't know why) Can't run a studio when you can't communicate with clients :/

I guess the problem is that guitars are so personal, it might be hard for some guys to walk in and play well on a guitar they never played before.

That aside, its defo the best move. A good guitar, or amp will make a huge improvement to the quality of your recordings.

Waves SSL is a real luxury in your position.. I was saving up for an SSL duende. ended up getting 2 good DI boxes. In the end, good source material, gives good end product.

Thats also a good point I was thinking about that as well, Idk how well someone would feel using a guitar that isn't there's I know that when I have to use someone else drum set its hard to adjust to it so I imagine it'd be much the same for guitar. But I definitely agree that you can't get a good recording if the source material is shit no matter what plug ins you use.

Wait until the iphone 5 comes out this summer. Trust me on this one. There are some annoying problems with the iphone 4, such as antena issue but more importantly the proximity sensor problem. You'll find yourself muting your conversations on accident and then learn to talk without the screen touching your face. iphone is the best smart phone on the market IMO but for this thread, my advice is to wait and get the iphone 5 this summer.

They fixed the antenna shit for the verizon iphone but yeah it probably would be smarter for me to wait for that.

Haha I feel bad about posting this here since its like kinda somewhat not about music but it is....but it isn't :x

Waves SSL won't do much for your mix unless you know what you are looking (most likely that won't be the case), my best advice is to keep the 700 bucks and buy something else, probably, POD or impulses if you want to improve your guitar sounds. What are you using now btw?

Im extremely annal about my tone. I have revalver. Recabinet 2.0 all the redline impulses and every impulse that I could find that was ever posted on this forum.:Spin:

I've been going through trial and error trying to figure out why I can't get the tone I'm after (I'm not necessarily disappointed with what I have more so its just not quite there) so I've narrowed it down to the way I dial in on the amp (or ampsim in my case) or the guitars, and I'm pretty sure its not the ampsim.

The guitars I've used so far are my friends les paul with passive pickups that was never properly set up.

And this kids shitty esp ltd thats practically falling apart, which also had passive pickups.

I'm no expert on guitar but I feel that if I were to get a new ltd with emg81's this might solve my problem and then I can move on to obsessing about the next thing lacking in my recordings.

I dont know which part of new york you're from but you could get this one, and use the rest on other stuff. Or the hellraiser of course

Jerseys about an hour away, thanks for the headsup bro I may message that guy

I have a mint schecter hellraiser with an 81/85 combo I'll sell you for 300 bucks. Then you'll have money left for a DI or ??

Dude, thats awesome could you PM some pictures of it and what not? (:

Agree with the mention to wait for Duende to go native and get the SSL strip directly from SSL. The Waves one was good for its time, but given how much Nebula pisses on it, I would say there's still a way to improve, and the Duende has sounded promising to me in the past. These days I'm trying to avoid using the Waves SSL stuff as much as possible. The EQs are really harsh, and while the compressor is decent, the GSSL pisses on it, so there's not much benefit. Really the best thing is the convenience of having the strip giving you all your major processing facilities in the one compact window.

Ermz what exactly is duende its actually made by solid state logic? Also whats gssl? Sorry don't know much about this stuff, I only wanted it because of all the posts I read on this forum (yours included)of how good it was these posts obviously must have been quite dated i never noticed lol.

I usually buy plugins then research them later :x
