ESP LTD F-401FM

If it's in the 400 range, I'd definitely think it's the real deal, though almost certainly like a 2mm thick veneer rather than a "cap," per se - the easiest way to tell (if you can get your hands on one of course) is to just rock it back and forth and see if the flames sorta move with the light

yeah, i know what a real top looks like. the problem is that no store around here sells ESP guitars. all i have to go on is interweb pics.

In that case I'd say it's worth taking the chance, no $600+ guitar I can think of (especially not from value-kings ESP) would dare use a photo-flame!

Yup, Metaltastic's right. The top is a thin veneer. Real wood, just real thin.

I am interested in trying out one of these guitars. I thought quality would go down with those once they moved the production of the 400 series from Korea to Indonesia, but I've heard nothing but good things about these guitars, so...

Wow, that's the first I've heard of this! Glad I snatched my EC-400 a few years ago when it was Korean-made

that's good to hear. this thing is really calling out to me lately. i'm fighting it, but GAS is winning the battle.

yeah ive been wanting a f series for a long time, the old f400 was just ugly with the tribal inlay along the whole fretboard, but the new 401fm is nice. my biggest requirement is no fucking dots on the fretboard, anything ut dots, i want a ex model too, but man those dots just ruin for me.

Yeah, all the 400 series with a 1 in the model number are Indonesian (F-401 guitar, F-415 bass, for example).

I believe the lower-end ones are now either Vietnamese or Chinese.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the only Korean LTD's right now are the Deluxe 1000's and the Signature 600's.

And yes, Korean FTW!

Oh man, there are a lot of 1001's out there now too (specifically the H1001, which I really like), I wonder if those are Indonesian-made as well!

Yeah, no those are still Korean, those have been around for longer. In the case of those, the 1 just means it has the new headstock design.

Oh, Nate beat me to it.
