^i quite dig the latter. was never big on the sonics but there are a scattering of mid'60s garage rock tunes i adore, lots of gems to be found on those various comp series like NUGGETS, BACK FROM THE GRAVE, DIGGIN' FOR GOLD, MINDROCKER etc.

I don't really know much about rock from the 60s or 70s at all. Most of this stuff I've heard recently (within like the last two years). I did hear a ton of stuff thanks to the internet, but so much to listen to. Last night I went to a friend's 30th birthday bash and they played this awesome song, that I HAD to know who it was. I found it today, and realized they're a 70s rock band that I don't think was mentioned here.

Talking Heads - 77

talking heads aren't very rock but i like 'em. i guess they're kinda post-punky but i always think of them as a pop band really. first three songs on REMAIN IN LIGHT ftw.

scaruffi's pretty useful for '60s/'70s stuff. i don't like the way so many people worship him blindly and our tastes aren't always aligned, plus he's a pretentious bellend who talks some bollocks at times, but he knows a hell of a lot of music.

I'll be honest, I may have slightly confused Sonics with Monks at first :D I looked up the Sonics album before I posted and realized that's not what I meant, remembered the band I wanted to post were Monks and added them. But I would consider the Sonics essential listen, because they are great example of garage rock and if you don't like them, you probably won't like 90% of garage.

Aren't most of those (or all, I don't know every band) jazz, or jazz fusion? Don't mean to be a dick, but those would never come to my mind in 60-70 rock albums.

That being said, I posted some garage bands that you might consider not rock too

Since when does Miles Davis play rock music?
