I'm looking for a good set of monitors for my first set. I'm trying to keep it at $500 max. I'm dedicating my G5 for recording and want some nice ones. The events seem pretty popular here, the Yamahas as well. They both seem like they would be good, which would you choose? Thanks,

-Joe

go to someplace that has a good return policy and get both. mix the same song with both(one mix for each set of monitors). burn them both on disc and see how they translate on lots of playback sources. bring the monitors back that dont work for you. opinions are pretty useless when it come to gear that is so personal. your room and ears will tell you more than any of us will. both are some of the best in the under $700.00 price range. good luck.

Hey thanks...I can't shell out cash for both at once though. I might just go with the events, if I don't dig then I'll check out the Yamaha.

Next question: Is there a significant advantage of choosing the TR8 XL over the regulars?

-Joe

im pretty sure the xl's have a higher peak wattage, which isn't that necessary imo, i never have to turn them up very much.

i would also suggest blue sky 2.1s. they don't sound as good as tr8s, but i think they translate really well.
