We're not being too strict either way. Case in point, I had Mithras in my top 10 last year (Dec '03 Euro release), and some will have it in lists this year (Feb 04 release US).

And then you have Entombed's Inferno that was only released in the US a month ago....that would be pretty extreme to include that, but the logic does allow it in theory.

If I didn't write for a zine, I wouldn't bother at all unless it was some passing thread topic. Why the headache otherwise?

That's EXACLY why you shouldn't make a prioritized list. All you need is suggestion of which albums you liked the most.

It annoys me to have to rank in order. It makes no sense (other than suggesting that any of the 10 in the list could take the #1 spot depending on mood).

I misplaced/lost my Wolverine CD-R, otherwise it would've probably gotten the Top Ten Treatment this year. Guess I'll just have to buy it now! :dopey:

If the CD release date for the US is 2004, I counted the album as 2004. Made things much simpler because I didn't like researching whether or not an album was released in Kerblakistan circa 1992, and didn't give a shit anyhow.

I don't know what albums I purchased this year, a lot less than last year though. Probably like 40 or so CDs, last year was well over 100.
 
I put Wolverine as 2004 because I use the wide release date when it is released over a period of time in different markets, as was the case here. It was released late 2003 in Europe, but not until 2004 in the US, so 2004. If it was released in 2003 in Europe with no release imminent release in the US, I'd put 2003. Hope that makes sense.

As for the date on the CD, that is the copyright date, which can actually be a year off the other direction. It could be copyrighted in 2003 but not released until 2004 (or later). Any CD released in Jan-Feb of a year has the previous year on the CD packaging (well, I shouldn't say 'any', but most).

I purchased a cheeseload of CDs this year, I couldn't possibly list them all.

You mean Ted, Jens, and Niklas? That'd be fine with me. I still can't do that with a regular camera. Like, I have to take them to the photoplace... and I can't photograph myself. :p
