Does anyone rember the band Excel? They were a SoCal thrash/metal band in the likes of Suicidal Tendencies. Well I was CD shopping today and got their disc The Jokes On You. (what a find) But inside they have a newspaper artical about how their song sounds like Metallicas Enter Sandman. The Met ripped them off. They didn't want a lenghty law suit and let it slide. Now I wish they would hwve exposed them for the frauds that they were. Excel was hoping some intrest would have been generated from this but to no avail. Metallicas management Cilff Burnstein even said hes never heard the group but was framiliar with them. He goes on to say " If Excel could write that one (as good as that) I'm sure thay can write more. " "Then they'll be successful." What a joke Excel was to kind to Metallica. Metallica rode the backs of Misfits, Diamond Head, Excel and many others to reach the level of success thay have now. And they give them no credit.

By the way the song Metallica ripped off is called Tapping into the emotional void. If you want to hear it for yourself.

excel was really good back in the day. i just got the remasters for both albums the jokes on you and split image. they have some cool demos at the end of both cds. back in the day i went to see them in chicago and we met them after the show. the drummer wanted us to come back to their hotel so he could shack up with my friend. it was very funny. yeah its too bad that metallica ripped them off. excel shouldnt have let it slide.

well i will have to check the song out for myself,if it is on the mark it would have been very worth there while to sue metallica.
I don't think it's too late to sue. Don't copyright laws protect your shit forever?

Not forever, just for a long time. It's set by Congress.

There was a US Supreme Court case not too long ago challenging the extension of copyright protections by Congress. The Court found that they can be extended as long as Congress wants. The only limit on Congress is that they can't be indefinite. This is covered in the Constitution. Article I section 8.

Hey Cincy, I remeber Excel and they were a sui band (sucidal). Back in the '80s SoCal they're was Suicidal Tendencies, Excel and No Mercy(Mike Muir from Suicidal fronted them). I saw No Mercy open for Anthrax on the Spreading the Disease tour. Mike Muir was his own pit on stager. Get this Bill: Anthrax, DRI, COC, Posessed and No Mercy. Mike Muir came out and sang with Anthrax and Joey took a break. The show ended early after somebody hit Charlie in the head(I think). That sucked and if wasn't dumb and 18 on malt liquor I would have met Scott but didn't want to make a fool of myself. BTW - It was at the Olympic Auditorium - famous for Boxing, Wrestling and punk shows. :hotjump:

That would have been a great bill. I seen D.R.I many times back in the day. No Mercy were great. I can't remember the album name but I had one that had horses on the cover, they might have been skeleton horses. I wonder if I can get a copy of that on CD.

I think I still have some DRI on vinyl but I know I lost some. I may have No Mercy somewhere but not on CD. If I get a chance I'll check some local places out to see if they have any of that older suicidal stuff. :Spin:

Old Suicidal is easy enough to find and it looks like two Excel albums were rereleased a few years back but I can't find shizzle on No Mercy either. On insound.com and ebay all I get is some Spanish boy band trio called no mercy.

Finding No Mergy in a used store would be sweet. But it would be like finding Nuclear Assault(Survive) or old Vio-lence. Doubt if it would happen but it would rule.

I checked with a friend to see if he had any Excel or No Mercy and he didn't. But he did come back with HIRAX on CD. I'm going to check secondspin.com

dude was shocked when he saw his house, he was jaso jazzed. they designed a jungle theme. Animals with 2 different working heads, that were powered by windshield wiper motors. either a scarry or normal face shows up. they had a 3 panel opening to the patio with a skull face then 2 other devilish things and cool bbq with bones cemtented in an around it. Tons of sheet metal used to design the jungle. It also had some African style sculptures. Sorry this review stinks but I was a little buzzed and tired while watching. Hopefully they'll repeat it on Saturday night along with Monster garage(they took a hearse and made it so it could dig graves).

Shit-that was a new Monster Garage?? From the looks of the commercials I thought they were showing the one where they built the failed Hearse/Car Crusher. Dammit.

The Monster House was cool. I don't know if I'd want that done to my house, but it was pretty neat. It had a big voodoo/jungle theme. It was amazing that they pulled it off. How about all the graffitti spraypainted all over his house-he's definitely got a unique home.
