I don't like maximizers and exciters, but I tried to put an exciter plug in in my mastering chain, and for my opinion if you don't abuse it clear up the mix nicely....what do you think about it?

Yeah. Leave the exciter out of the equation and correct the problem in the mix.

If you must put something on the master buss I would be looking at saturation before any exciter but even then I think it's best to do any colouring of the sound during recording / mixing.

I don't have problems in the mix, but with a little touch of exciter it sound a little better...that's all....

Yeah, it is easy to overdo it, but generally the popular agreement is to try and avoid using them at all. A saturation plug (like the URS sat or PSP Vintage Warmer) can be cool to use on the 2bus as a warming effect though. As always, there are no rules and whatever sounds best, go with it!

yes 006, this is true, i know that exciters and maximizer are little fuckers!hahaha...its easy to abuse..

I didn't mean it as if your mix sucked. I haven't even heard it. What I'm saying is an exciter is not magic and lots of people use them to make up for deficiencies in the mix they may not even notice.

On the other hand just do whatever gives you the results you want. It's nice to have a second opinion with things like this but every single person here has their own methods and ethics when it comes to recording. It all comes down to what sounds good to you. :kickass:

EDIT: Yeah...what 006 said. I should have read his post before replying. He covered it well.
