I think the best thing to do is to keep your practicing mixed up, run some chromatic scales horizontally/vertically, then some other scales (pentatonics work fine), again horizontally and vertically on the fretboard, and arpeggios will probobly help a ton too, especially with left hand speed.
the hardest bit, I think, is slowing down enough to get yourself consistent, then speeding it up. The easy part is playing it fast and hitting 'most' of the right notes, instead of all the right notes.
