External Hard Drive Causing 'fuzzy' audio?

Every time I'm using my Fantom Titanium 7200RPM Firewire drive with my XP computer, all audio, whether it be system sounds, music, or audio projects playback all fuzzy, like it's an artifact sort of.

However, using it on my vista laptop causes no problem.

Any ideas?

Is the drive connected to your soundcard (I'm asking because some cards have firewire connectors)?

No it's connected to my PCI firewire card which has a TI chip.

Also, an update: It now does the same thing on my vista laptop. Guess I was just lucky the one time it worked.

Basically, I want it for more than external storage, which it does fine. I want to run music projects directly from it.

Edit: Is it possible it's conflicting with the firepod? Do I need to have the firepod at a certain latency. It's set at 12ms right now.

That's a really weird problem. Maybe the data stream from the drive is somehow corrupted. Do you have artifacts in other files as well (office documents, videos etc.)?

Anything that makes a sound when I have the drive plugged in becomes fuzzy, and like I said, it's now happening on two completely different computers. The only similarity is that I'm running them both with a firepod, so that leads me to believe the firepod is disagreeing with the HD.

Oh and now that I think about it... The time that the external HD wasn't causing fuzzy audio was the time I wasn't using the firepod with the laptop.

Edit: Ok, setting the latency to 4ms on the firepod fixed it...
