External Harddrives/Harddrive enclosures?

Anyone able to recommend a good firewire external HD for under $250? Would I be better off buying an internal harddrive and a firewire enclosure? It's going to be used with my laptop so it needs to be external. What are some brands to look for and brands to avoid?

I found a an internal 160GB HD and an enclosure (that has firewire and usb) for $80 off of newegg.com

lacie makes good external drives. i got a d2 quadra 500 gb drive for $220 can
it has esata, fw 800, fw 400 and usb connectivity. check it out bro!!!
