I've heard from you guys EZ Drummer is not that good on it's own, that it needs too much replacement, triggering bla bla bla...

Well, I just found out it's like 150 bucks... and then I came across this on Youtube:

Holy shit! Can I get it to sound like that without drumagog?! If so, I've so gotta buy it!

Can this all be done inside the DFH window? You know, like Addictive Drums has it's own built-in compressor, EQ, filter, etc.?

Yes, I think you can do this with ezdrummer (dfh expansion) + processing... But it doesn´t sound so great IMHO...
Sounds better than any clip I've heard of Addictive Drums, IMO. I was planning on getting AD, but now EZD seems like a better choice for me...

yeah purchase it, its a great tool. it became some kind of a muse for me. that, revalver, and few good vst synths and I am good to go.
I think I might... :D

oh... you think I should aim for Addictive Drums, then? I just want to avoid drum replacement as much as possible...

Well...

EZdrummer's groove library is better

however AD sounds better to me. You will have to do EQ and compression work to get a great metal sound, but you can do those in the same plugin.

you will have to compress and EQ the ezdrummer to get a great metal sound as well...but you will have to go into external plugins.

Anyone who knows what they are doing will be able to get great sounds out of each

here are some AD clips from here

Yeah, I'd totally go for AD over EZD + DFH (and ESPECIALLY just EZD) - I hate the EZD DFH kicks, and I'd imagine the standard EZD's would only be worse, and the fact that it doesn't have built-in plugin support (thus I can't have an ideal kick in one single preset) is another deal-breaker. And S 2.0 is just too fucking complicated

However, there's the upcoming Slate Standalone to consider as well...

I haven't used AD but I think that EZDrummer is awesome and a great value for the $. It's not super flexible but it also isn't a bloated memory hog either. I think it sounds great too unless you need your drums 'release ready.'

i was going to mention the Slate standalone but he mentioned price, so i kinda left it out.

I don't know about anyone else but I think EZ drummer sounds like shit, it's okay for hashing ideas but that is where it stops for me. Especially the DFH add on.

i hate the kicks and snares in the DFH expansion, but i really like the cymbals, and the toms can be usable...the hi-hats are absolutely atrocious, though

regular EZD is decent for rock, or sludgier/slower sort of stuff, but doesn't cut it for balls-out metal

Hihats have always been the biggest weakness in pretty much all drum machines I've heard. They never sound air-y and lively like a real hihat, and they also sound very shy so to speak, like the drummer held back way too much when hitting the hihat even at max velocity.

Hihats and rides are the main reason why I love Addictive Drums!
They sound so natural with as little tweaking as possible, like basic dynamics (velocity adjusting) and timing (a bit of humanizing).
And what's best about them - they cut through the mix nicely without being obnoxious and overpowering everything else...
EZD's cymbals are crappy, some hits are very weird to say the least... Especially rides, I hate them in EZD!
Not to mention great dynamic response from AD, I keep the usual hits around 105 and they sound as if being hit hard, which of course leaves me room to hit harder if I want to.

AD all the way IMO! :headbang:

I have EZDrummer, Superior 2.0 and Addictive Drums and although I'm not going to completely give up on S2.0, I think I should have just stayed with AD. The drums sound great, its a LOT easier to tweak than S2.0 and you have a ton of flexibility light years ahead of EZDrummer. The system resources are not an issue at all but they are with S2.0. Go AD, you won't be sorry you did.

kass: he said the price of slate standalone drums? How much? Thanks

You're asking if Steven has mentioned the price of the standalone?

I don't know if he mentioned the price or not, but judging by the prices of his sample sets right now...it will cost him about twice as much as EZ drummer

I think its worth it though...shit sounds incredible:headbang:
