Fates Warning tour and VIP packages...

Has Fates Warning ever promoted anything correctly? Christ, I remember seeing them in Pittsburgh after I found out 5 hours before the show that they were playing. Drove 2 1/2 hours to see them, and I was part of an audience of about 25 people! The "Inside Out" tour was a disaster.

How many people don't even realize that they're touring in the fall? As it gets closer we'll see what happens, but the VIP thing alongside the 4 cd re-issue leads me to believe that there will be some sort of celebration of APSOG.

I said as much above. They're absolutely the worst at marketing themselves. It's like they don't even care. I flew up to the CT show for Parallels and they had one t-shirt and it was only the Parallels album cover. In turn I also went up for the Arch/Matheos show and again just one t-shirt of the album cover. No promoting themselves, no merchandise, no online presence whatsoever. Even the post above mine is the artist himself talking about working on the reissue. Nothing from the band. That's just beyond ridiculous. I'm going to two of the Texas shows and I'll be surprised if there's more than a 100 people at either one.

Whatever it is I'm going to either Poughkeepsie or Worcester!! The last show (and all before) was great and I'm sure this will be too; doesn't really matter in the long run what the focus of the tour is I guess.

A three-CD/DVD deluxe reissue of the critically acclaimed 1997 album "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray" from progressive metal legends FATES WARNING will be made available on October 2 via Metal Blade. "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray" is a single song that is divided into twelve tracks. The album is notable for its darker mood and mixture of progressive rock and metal with hints of industrial, classical, and psychedelia.

This all-encompassing and expansive collection features the original album on the first CD. The second CD features a live version of the album recorded during the band's 1998 European tour as well as a soundcheck recording of "We Only Say Goodbye" and a studio cover version of the SCORPIONS' "In Trance". The third CD in the package consists of demos from the pre-production and writing sessions for "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray". Finally, the DVD portion of the set consists of two complete live performances of "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray". The first is a restored and re-edited version of the band's 1998 VHS release and the second was filmed at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, California in 1999. Pre-orders as well as the first samples of music from this special edition will be available next Thursday, August 6.

FATES WARNING will tour North America this fall. The trek kicks off October 9 in Hartford, Connecticut and runs through November 2 in Ramona, California. Exclusive VIP Packages are available for all shows and can be purchased here. There are two different VIP Packages: the first includes a chance to watch the band's soundcheck, meet the band, take photos with the band and a VIP laminate; the second package includes everything from the first package and in addition a signed copy of the deluxe reissue of "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray".

FATES WARNING's eleventh studio album, "Darkness In A Different Light", sold around 2,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD was issued in North America on October 1, 2013 via InsideOut Music.

Featuring founding guitarist Jim Matheos alongside classic-lineup members Ray Alder (vocals) and Frank Aresti (guitar), longtime bassist Joey Vera and drummer Bobby Jarzombek, "Darkness In A Different Light" was produced by Matheos and mixed by longtime FATES WARNING engineer Phil Magnotti. The effort was mastered by Maor Appelbaum (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, SEPULTURA, ANVIL) at Maor Appelbaum Mastering in California. The cover artwork was designed by Conte di San Pietro.

In addition to the standard CD jewel case and the digital download format, "Darkness In A Different Light" was made available in Europe as 2CD mediabook edition and as gatefold 2LP version (180-gram vinyl in black, red or white vinyl) with four bonus tracks.

Michael Abdow has posted on FB "Fates Warning's United States Fall tour! We'll see you soon!", which leads me to believe that he'll once again be filling in for Frank Aresti. (They're both awesome, but felt the need to clarify since that press release only mentions the album lineup.)

I think it's pretty safe to say that with the rare exception (i.e. the "Awaken the Guardian" set at Keep it True), Aresti will no longer be performing live with the band. Abdow does a tremendous job of playing his parts, though.

Stay metal. Never rust.
Albert

Oh I don't know about that (well I hope we still will), but I bet he has a job that actually makes money. I bet Matheos is the only one who probably doesn't have a "real job" when not touring. And we'll all get to see Aresti at PP XVII doing all of ATG, right Glenn? :D

During the "Darkness In A Different Light" tour I was impressed by Michael Abdow. He filled in admirably for Frank Aresti!
I saw them in Cleveland and they were dead on that night. Ray sounded amazing! I often wonder if he quit smoking, because he's been better live in recent times.
I'll be there at this go around; Cleveland again, but I'll avoid the VIP stuff. Just seeing the band is good enough for me. The band is always very approachable anyways, so if they're out and about its not hard to go up and say hi.
The re-issue is a jackpot for me. I would have to own this the day it came out anyways, so the 2nd VIP package is useless because I will already have the cd haha.

...And, we have the 2016 "Awaken..." headlining show in Atlanta also. Thanks Glenn!!!
