Favorite My Dying Bride CD?

So you've got the dreadful hours right? thats my fav, anyway I really dig 34.788% complete, for a slightly different take on doom metal give it a go

Angel and the Dark River and Like Gods of the Son are prolly my two favorite discs of theirs.

Though everyone raves about it, Turn Loose the Swans never quite clicked with me.

If you are a CD trader, let me know. I would probably be willing to trade some of my MDB CDs.

I THINK I actually have most of their cds, but I've never listened to either the newest one or the oldest one (well, I guess I listened to like 2 tracks of the old one). Here's what I've got and what I think about it:

As the Flower Withers - Don't remember what I thought besides the vocals were gross

Turn Loose the Swans - It seems overrated to me, everyone always tries to proclaim it the best thing ever recorded but I don't really like it all that much.

The Angel and the Dark River (2 cd version w/live at the dynamo) - This one's pretty damn good imo. I've never listened to the bonus cd though.

Like Gods of the Sun - Kind of like a bland version of the previous one. I like the fallen angel song and 'a kiss to remember' quite a bit though.

.347888% Complete - I actually like this quite a bit, the first track especially. I even like that messed up one with all the weird censored profanity (Heroin Chic). It sure is a departure from their other stuff but I like it.

Light at the End of the World - This one is really good, but maybe a bit overlong. Not much else to say about it.

The Dreadful Hours - This one's my favorite I think, just awesome. "My Hope the Destroyer" is my favorite song on it, with "A Cruel Taste of Winter" being second.

Songs of Darkness, Words of Light - I've had this for at least a year now but just never have gotten around to listening to it (I got it used for like 3 dollars so I never felt much of an obligation, haha).

i have to say angel and the dark river is the best followed closely by turn loose the swans.

if people don't like that album, then they are either, missed it when it came out , to young and not around when it first came out and experianced what kind of impact it had on music of that time, or are just gay, no offence wanker(not directed at you)

Well, I didn't hear it until about 2002 so obviously my thoughts were 'this is rather simplistic and boring,' same deal with most of Anathema - Serenades, which most people also seem to consider one of the absolute best doom albums ever recorded. I'm not saying they're bad albums I just don't like them much.

Same here I didnt think TLTS was all that good either.

I guess I fall into that "must be gay" category unfortunately....

I was around when "...Swans" first came out. I can remember quite clearly the impact it had on me and my bandmates at the time (my old doom/death band I was in back then), which was, "Wow, this sorta sucks", lol. I admit that I grew to like it much better over time, but still I don't consider it to be one of my more well-liked MDB albums. Truth be told though, I'm not much of a fan of them anyhow (though some people find that hard to believe), I tend to like certain songs from different albums of theirs, and not really a fan of any album overall. I felt much more of an impact upon first hearing the "Symphonaire..." EP really, but to each their own.
Anathema "Serenades" was an album I actually liked a fair amount when it first came out. I don't think it's really stood the test of time very well. That can be said of many of those early death-doom albums, when playing slow and having something like a violin or female vocals was enough to get you noticed (as is the case with our first cd, which I think is good but doesn't really hold up as well today either). But I have to say that both "...Swans" and "Serenades" definitely were influential albums to the scene in general and spawned quite alot of music that came afterwards, so they are due their respect and regards.

i really really got into the ep you mentioned also, but something new happened on tlts, and that was the clean vocals, and i at the time on first listen was like, man those vocals are kinda lame, and then it just grew on me. not to mention the awesome guitar sound and heavy assed riffs!

lol if you must be "gay" that's cool man, to each it's own lol
ha ha ha, i still like the taatdr best. i respect peoples opinions, don't get me wrong. i was just kinda poking fun in my first thread is all.
:kickass:

so do you have recordings of your first death/doom band?
