favourite concerts ever

Nope, they closed it off. It would have been nice to bowl during Cattle Decapitation or this metal core band, though.

Tool and Laundry in '94
Morbid Angel / At the Gates / Dissection in '96
Tool and King Crimson in '01

Those 3 shows make life worth living. :)

A few that come to mind:

Van Halen ‘84. My first real concert and I was a huge fan.
Metallica/Ozzy ‘86 or ‘87
Clash of the Titans ‘91 Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Alice in Chains
Lollapalooza ‘92 Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, RHCP, Ministry, Ice Cube, etc
Nine Inch Nails ‘94
Pearl Jam ‘03
Tool/Tomahawk ‘04

The rebirth of Dissection - Stockholm 2004
Cryhavoc/Gardenian/Dark Tranquillity/In Flames - Stockholm 1999
Amon Amarth - Stockholm, Debaser 2002
Nevermore - Wacken 2001
Blind Guardian - Stockholm 2002
Judas Priest - Stockholm 2004
Iron Maiden - Gothenburg 2004
The Haunted - Stockholm 2001
Candlemass - Stockholm 2002
Opeth - Stockholm 2004

Opeth/Moonspell in early 2004 was my first real concert experience and it was amazing. Really brought the closeness of the metal scene to the forefront as we arrived outside the venue early in the day and walked around a bit and met Mike walking down the street and had a nice little chat with him before he went to the sound check. A little later on we ran into him again at the record store about a block away and they were playing Orchid over their sound system. The show itself was amazing, though we had to put up with Devildriver, Moonspell was incredible and really got the crowd involved with "Everything Invaded" and "Alma Mater." Opeth played an amazing mixed set, and though there wasn't anything from the first two albums it was still incredible to hear The Moor, Deliverance, Blackwater Park, April Ethereal, Demon of the Fall and MASTER'S FUCKING APPRENTICES live. Also, Lopez was the drummer at that show even though that was around the time his problems started to arise and I'm very happy I got to see them in a small club atmosphere with that lineup while still possible.

Next would be Behemoth and Suffocation. The best part was being able to interview Nergal before the show and basically just get to stand around and shoot the breeze with him for awhile. That and the fact that Behemoth sound a trillion times better live than on record. They absolutely lit the place up with all their best songs, probably the best live band ever. Suffocation was no slouch either though and they put on an intense show. Everyone was spot on and it was easy to connect with the band. The pit was great during Behemoth's set and hearing the show from about 1 ft. away was pretty amazing. I think I would have died during Suffocation's set in the pit, so I didn't stay for as long and got up on a little rise at the same level as the band. Awesome.

Nile, Hypocrisy and Decapitated was great for it's sheer intensity. The new Decap vocalist sounds SO MUCH better live than on CD and they put on a great show, as did Hypocrisy, but Nile is just so fucking seamless in what they do and Kollias is just insane behind the drumkit, though he makes it look easy.

Looking forward to HC II for my first festival experience.

I thought MoR sucked. Metallica kicked ass and Kingdom Come was cool. Other than that, it blew.

The show by Metallica was a defining moment in my life. I was 14 and it completely turned my world upside down. Rarely has a concert had as much impact on me than that show did. The Scorpions also rocked (what can I say, I dig 'em), but that was wholly secondary to the legendary performance I witnessed that day.

PPVI? Really?

Orphaned Land were obviously incredible (and I expected them to be). But when I found out that their regular guitarist couldn't make the trip and that short haired guy was just a touring guitarist, it made the show all the more special.

The shocker of shockers was just how much I enjoyed Conception (other than Ingar's antics, LOL), Circus Maximus was a squillion times better than I ever thought they would be (and I thoroughly enjoyed the studio album even before that) - just an amazing, amazing vocal experience. Factor in a great, energetic set by Symphorce where I was in the photo pit the entire time coupled with having the VIP treatment for the weekend (including all the beer I could drink), my first time at Cheetah's, the Queensryche karaoke girl, and you offset the disappointments that were Stratovarius, Angra and Manticora.

Had an absolute blast last year.

The Gathering/Novembers Doom/Agalloch

DOTE - Seeing Agalloch again was the highlight, seeing Woods first show in a long time...

Northern Lights 2003 - seeing Woods of Ypres first lineup

Northern Lights 2004 - Seeing Melechesh, seeing UnExpect for the first time!

Midwinter Metal Mayhem - Woods 2nd Lineup

The Gathering/UnExpect/Giant Squid - The Gathering is always amazing live. met Anneke backstage, and got to talk her for awhile!

He actually diminshed my enjoyment of that set. What a jackass.

Ahhh... I didn't know that you were impressed with Michael's performance. Hearing him sing again at this year'a pre-party is one of the things I'm looking forward to most.

Andy could front a band with you, Ali and I and we'd kick ass.

Yeah... hanging with me can make up for many things. You forgot about how pleasant Paula was the next morning.:zombie:

By the way, were you expecting Stratovarius to be good?

Yeah, for me a little as well - boy did I take it on the chin though when I mentioned that in my post show write up on the PP Forum! Sheesh!

Indeed I was - and I agree about this year, I am so stoked to see them on the main stage again. It's basically a 3 night fest this year with Wednesday as the real pre-party.

I certainly wouldn't doubt it - though I'm sure you'd steal his thunder with all your unnecessary stage moshing antics! :loco:

Yeah, that was actually the crux of my argument, and my main point, I just forgot to make it.

LOL - given our unbelievably late night and early departure, it was pretty damn understandable.

General Zod said:

Sure - I wouldn't have been looking forward to them otherwise, and they did actually perform a good set at Wacken '03, so I was expecting more of the same, and didn't even come close to getting it. The 45 minute delay coupled with a ridiculously long and pointless video intro soured me before they even hit the stage.

rush, maiden, toxic narcotic, tool, opeth/pelican, slayer/mastodon, nile/king diamond, kreator/hypocrisy

i think maiden was my favorite, that ruled, normally i like small venues but with maiden that would be sacrilege

there are so many bands i love that i haven't seen...and there's no live black metal in america seriously

BLACK SABBATH (2005):Because ...

then:
Headway Festival 2004: The insanity of Watchtower and melody of Sieges Even
Saviour Machine (1998): For the intensity
Death (1998): Dream coming real
Manilla Road (2002) : Epic madness, amazing performance and power on stage.
Queensryche (2004) : For witnessing Operation: Mindcrime on its entity
Dream Theater (1998): Starting the concert with Crimson Sunrise while the sun was setting behind the band was a life experience.
Candlemass (2002) : Another dream becoming real, watching "A Sorcerer's Pledge" on stage would be enough...
Jag Panzer (2003) and Helstar (2004) : For being the most METAL shows i ever witnessed.
Hawkwind (1996) : For experiencing something so unique that i could not totally comprehend it.
