i've been feeling disinterested lately, and i dont know why. no ongs from any band seem to get me pumped up like they used too.

it used to be pop in any anthrax and i'd get fired up, then that became a more select group of cd's now nothing seems to work. Dream Theater dont work. seeing megadeth live made me not want to listen to them anymore.

i think im growing out of it for some reason. there has to be a cure, some killer fuckin album that will plant a new music seed, one that will grow so i can once again enjoy music for itself and not just for something in the background when im playing games of sorts.

i can understand what u are saying, the last new band that has really kicked my ass would be slipknot,my only suggestion would be old school rock mate, its that simple!

Hmmm, I know how you feel dude. I went through that type of thing at the beginning of summer. Then I discovered Life of Agony (river runs red) and HOLY @#$4 it was almost like a Renaissance of sorts. I started playing my guitar ALOT more and started writing again. Hell I'm at the point where I want to start a band here at college (Sepultura, Motorhead, Life of Agony, Anthrax, Faith No More inspired metal). Just listen around and I'm sure something will spark your interests. Walk around a record store (the metal section preferably!) and see if anything jogs your memory or take a chance on an album by a good musical artist. Here's a list of some kick ass bands you might dig. Children of Bodom, Nevermore, Biohazard, Madball, Life of Agony, Chimaira, Black Dhalia Murder, Public Enemy, The Haunted, Menudo (HA!, made you look), Unearth, Kumbia Kings, Rick James, Sepultura. Hope you get out of your rut soon. Hasta.

Try listening to nothin but cheesey pop tunes for the next month, instead of listenin to your regular tunes stick on a commercial radio station or somethin. I'm sure if you deprive yourself for long enough, it will be fuckin killer when you get your tunes back out again.

It's a bit like sex, if your at it 3 times a day for years you're gonna get tired of it. If you stop it for a while and then get some again you'll be guaranteed that's some good shit.

(I must also add that I have never actually been fortunate enough to get it once a day, never mind three times)

"Do you like music? This is my favourite swong!"
What movie is that from?

If you were in this area, I'd start a band with you. The dudes I'm playing with are into bullshit low production punk. They never play riffs, just simple power chords. They use cookie cutter bargain guitars and no effects. When I came over with my rig for the first time, they were blown away with all the gear I had. I had to explain everything, whammy, distortion, compresser, etc etc. And they get paying gigs?!!!!! Fuck them. I hate the music scene in DC. It sucks herpes ridden donkey balls. I went to see LOA a couple of weeks ago in a club on a Friday night expecting it to be packed. Half the crowd of 100 or so were probably from out of town. I wonder what kind of crowd the Anthrax show on OCT 6 will bring (which is on a thurs.)???

All I can do is keep practicing and hope I meet a good singer and songwriter.

I took home this chick the other night that I met at a bar and played guitar for her and she got freaked out by how loud it was. She was all like "I only like the sound of the acoustic guitar". I was like, "get the fuck out of here". So I attempted to play my Strat with a clean tone and she was still like "you're just playing too fast". So I said to her, "I'm a shredder, it's what I was born to do, shred. I'm sorry if you don't like it. There's the door".

Fuck Dave Matthews !! How can anyone like his music?? Its OK. I'd much rather listen to gangsta rap!!!!!

well i know its not love, i guess i'll try not listening to metal for a week or so, but theres not much else i can stand. i'd love to be in a band but i've only got talent with a cello(laughs). if you want a metal band with a cello let me know.

If you can play cello you surely could play guitar or bass.

Alex is right Dave Mathews fucking blows.

and dude Dream Theatre is a glorified version of Styx - I suggest you shelve that shit. Try some country, blues, rap or punk to shake up your stereo.

I had this feeling in the Mid 90's after listening to metal/rock for years, I think the music just got boring for me. I then discovered Pink Floyd, Queen, etc.

But a few years later, hey presto, my metal mojo came back.:headbang:

Switch genres a bit, I go through phases, some times I get on a power metal kick, Helloween, Maiden, Rhapsody that kind of thing. Then I get tired of that I'll go to some punkier stuff, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Dropkick Murphys, Misfits, then maybe it will be on to Pig Destroyer, Refused, The main thing I think is to be diverse and not limit your listening to only a handful of bands.

Some old school rock is great. I am finding my tastes as I get older are for the more melodic metal rather than the simple-no-solo-drop-d-tuning stuff that the nu metal scene offers.

Some of you know I am huge Stryper fan from the 80s so their new release is keeping me entertained. SOAD's Mesmerize kept me entertained too. Eagerly awaiting Maidens 73rd live album too!

buy or download octivarium dream theaters latest, its alot diffrent that their eariler stuff, they are changing, in a very good way.

i've tried alot of music but theres not much out there i like, i cant really describe what makes or breaks it for me. i do like classic rock. clapton has some good shit.

im getting into techno/trance music a bit.

country and blues are a no, i get my dose of rap at one of my friends house.

i dont know any punk bands tho.(hint, hint)

im amazed by the number of responses i've got. feels good to know someones there when i need musical advice. thank you :)

Yeah definitely listen to a wide range of music. I got in a metal rut, that happens sometimes if I play guitar too much too. I just did 3 hours of metal today on my radio show and after that I just cranked KGGO on the way home and listened to some good ol classic rock. There is a such thing as too much of a great thing. It's like an old guitar world article with the dudes from meshuggah. They would say sometimes they wouldnt pick up their guitars for three months on a break and then they would feel more inspired when they got em back out and started writing again.

It's good to vary yourself lately I have been listening to metal like always but also....

Coheed and Cambria, A Perfect Circle, Journey, Busta Rhymes, and so on. It is good to keep your music diverse, makes you much more interested in music.

As for new shit I have enjoyed a lot of releases this year especially Nevermore- This Godless Endeavor and the new Fear Factory.
