Fidelman mixing the next Gojira album? (fuuu!)

not to mention every single drum shell apart from the snare sound like metronome clicks "tick tick tick"

Yeah man, I was actually thinking about that when this thread got started. He has a penchant for fucking disgusting kick sounds. Slappy, but not the wet Pantera kinda slappy (that I personally like to use) but a really over compressed "blip", with no thud, and no chunk. Horrible.

Hang on... after re-reading that article, have we got our wires crossed? It doesn't actually say he's mixing it, he's only producing. That doesn't necessarily mean he's mixing and/or engineering it, does it? It might be (read: hopefully) be passed onto someone else after tracking?

I assume Rubin and Fidelman come as a package deal, and I guess they're seen as the 'top picks' right now. The band might be too blinded by simply having the means to access them that they haven't yet asked the basic question of 'do we actually want these guys to do our record?'.

If I were Mader, I'd be loving this news though. Normally there'd be a degree of anxiety, wondering whether the new production team will outdo your work with the band, but I think in this case he can just pop open a cold one, chill and have a good laugh.

I doubt that tbh man. You can just imagine - "Hey, we had this shit producer/engineer that pretty much ruined our ultimate come-back album, made it difficult to listen to, and created a running joke even with people who know nothing about music production. You should totally use him!"

^ This pretty much assumes the members of Metallica are in touch with any sort of reality...

There's a chance this could be rad (probably just in my eyes though). I'm really into how Slayer's WPB sounds and the last High On Fire album has THE best ever bass tone ever....but I'm a big fan of raw production these days.

I defo don't think it's about 'who you know' though. Fidleman's probably not cheap either. Gojira are self managed and Joe is a bit of a producer himself so he's going to go with someone he thinks will do the right job for what he has in mind - in this interview he talks about how he wants to track the album all live so I think he wants something raw and a bit nasty

PS these guys are insane musicians and one of the best live bands around. I don't think Fidleman's worked with any bands as tight as these guys which is a huge part of how good it will sound.

Hetfield and Kerry King... not tight?

Edit: Bands as a whole though fair enough, misread that...

Yeah maybe where you're at right now, but Gojira have 4 albums under their belt already and are a globe-trotting internationally acclaimed band. If I was where they're at then having that prick's name on my CD wouldn't mean shit

Rubin might help with the american market - Gojira didn't even crack top 100 last outing.
