How many of you do it? I use Winmx and it would rock seeing more of you guys ont here. Not much death metal and stuff. I think filesharing is fine because when I hear an excellent band, it motivates me to buy their CD, ala Iced Earth and Opeth. You?

I have Kazaa and Winmx. I almost never use Winmx and I occasionally use Kazaa. I use Kazaa to hear if something is good or not. If it's good, I'll buy it!!! If not, I'll erase it! I of course also download porn from Kazaa! Ha ha!
I guess I can ask this question here, although it didn't really have anything to do with the original subject; Have you heard about that stuff where an anti-pirating group go to Kazaa and take screenshots of your shared files and then sue you for a zillion bucks?? What is legal and what isn't? I am a vinylfreak and have started mp3'ing some of my records for a friend and my brother. Is this illegal, as it's analog to digital? They are in the same folder as the stuff I share at Kazaa, is it then illegal (as people can download them from me)?

If you're worried about sharing files on Kazaa or Grokster, just disable the upload side of it. I ended up with some very nasty porn in my share file on Kazaa, so I disabled it while I deleted it all, and then basically left it like that. I use it to get stuff which is impossible to find in New Zealand, or stuff I've had on tape for years. It's helped me buy a few albums, and get to know of a few more (well, hundreds...) I want.

i usea kazaa... but i only download stuff that can't be found here in mexico. It helps me a lot when i want to buy certain CD but i'm not sure about the cuality. That's not "steeling" like IRAA said... if i buy something that i wasn't expecting, then i think THEY are robing me, becose i spended my money in a pice of shit that i didn't want. MUSIC ITS NOT LIKE PLAYING BINGO, i want good music and i don't want to risk my money.

That's why i download a few song before buy the album. If the album dosen't worth 12 buck, then i'll might download it.

I use DC++, there are some excellent metal hubs out there; this has resulted in me buying more cds in the last year or so than I have in years; so for me personally, I don't think it's hurting record companies at all :)

I constantly use KaZaA, and it's thanks to it I've bought most of the CDs in my collection. And thanks to it I'll be buying more. And it also helps when theres only ONE good song in the CD. Not to mention that is a great help when deciding WHICH album to buy.

If you download it I assume you like it, so why not buy it?
I don't download anything to save money! Have you never heard of secondhand shops? I downloaded "Toss the feathers" by The Corrs and then bought the cd in a second hand shop for 45 Kroner (approx. $6.50) (normal price is approx. $20). I just think that if it's good enough to download and listen to, it's also good enough to go out and buy! Some things get tiresome after 5-10 listens (pop music of today mostly), but I never download that stuff as I've heard it enough already.
