Haven't recorded in months, so I just sat down and started screwing around yesterday afternoon and came up with a couple minutes.

I thought I would share this in case this was up any of your alleys.

It's not really mixed - because I plan on adding more to it as I have time and addressing that later, but still I'm fairly happy with the sound even as it is. So if anybody has any major suggestions I'm open to them.

Cool stuff! The intro was like "SMACK, holy shit this is awesome!" but then I started thinking too much of Meshuggah when the "weird" solo guitar stuff came in, but after that it turned away into something less Meshuggah, which was more enjoyable for me. My tip song writing-wise is to add a little more straight beats here and there in-between all the odd stuff (with straight I mean REALLY straight... one TWO three FOUR one TWO three FOUR :)). I think that could make your music more attractive to those who aren't so hardcore prog/tech, and still maintain that prog/tech essence a lot.

And sound-wise, my personal opinion is that the cymbals are way too "in your face" while the guitar is kinda behind the cymbals. As a drummer myself, I think of cymbals as the landscape which the music rests on, so the guitars should be on top of the cymbals, not the other way (yeah I'm aware that in metal, cymbals tend to get loud, but it really doesn't have to be that way). I know I'm a bit fuzzy in my description but that's because I'm not so experienced in producing stuff :) But it's still a tip from a musician, so if you find it useful, you could take a look at the cymbals and see if you can make them work better with the guitars.

But awesome playing! I love the drum sound, very natural! Keep it up man :)

I was just thinking of slightly odd rhythmic stuff rather than anything overtly technical, and I guess it's almost hard to avoid a Meshuggah vibe like that. :p
Thanks for the advice.
I like to write straight beats to play lead over mostly, but they often still end up being polyrhythms most of the time - so I get your point. :p

Hehe yeah :) One thing that one mustn't forget is contrast... it's all about contrast, and not just in music. An image without contrast is dull, pretty much one avarage color of the whole image. Same thing goes for music, a song that is ONLY fast or ONLY technical is just that, nothing more. Well, if that's the whole point of the music then fine, but personally I want my (or anyone's for that matter) music to be enjoyed by as many as possible, thus contrast will let you make the most out of your music.

I've heard a few songs which start off pretty simple and continues like that for a while, when all of a sudden they burst out into something fucking super technical and extreme for a moment, then going back again. After that happens, you as the listener go like "... what the fuck was THAT!", and it's so nice when you get those moments :D So if it's all technical and extreme all the time, those moments won't come as easily.

I'm talking pretty much in general now though, this isn't really pointed at your stuff, I just wanted to point out my thoughts on music writing and how important contrast is :)

Keep up the good work man, do what you feel is right! Everything I've said so far could mean shit to you, and rightfully so if you can stand for what you do and not just do it for the sake of doing it.

dude, I think its great, doesnt remind me of mesh to much at all, reminds me more of old school candiria, or coinmonster, good shit, I would like to hear the guitar come up a cunt hair or two, I would buy this provided there were pleasing vocals
